Discussion: Obama: No One Actually Thinks Trump Is ‘Most Successful Businessman’

You must admit, POTUS Obama, he’s the most successful at bankrupting casinos.

TPM: I wish you would be a bit more accurate in your headlines. You infer President Obama said “no one” even though it is not included in the quotes, the inference is there. It makes the President look careless in his remarks. Sadly, Trump supporters do believe it because they keep hearing it from Trump.

“It’s very possible that I could be the first presidential candidate to run and make money on it,”

@innerchild The speaker implies, the listener infers. YOU heard what you did in the president’s remarks.

Yes, yes…good.

Keep attacking Micropenis’ tiny hands, small mind, little ideas, miniscule business acumen.

Takes real creativity to run a casino into the ground. Well, unless stiffing people through bankruptcy is your well-practiced business model. Then it just take a deficit of moral sense.

Anything you want to shout, you just put between these: < h1 > and < /h1 > but you have to close up the spaces between the caret marks and the rest.

A friend of mine on another forum pointed out, “Who the hell can fuck up Vodka?” – to which I replied, “Who the hell can fuck up Steaks?”

Same guy who can cause a casino to lose money.

And what the hell billionaire wastes his time with branding vodka and steaks? That was Mark Cuban’s point. It’s peanuts. Might as well have a paper route.

Might as well invest your money in an index fund…you’ll get better returns than Trump.

Warren Buffet was talking about Trump a while back and said his problem with the casinos was he was too impressed with his ability to borrow and did it to the point he’d never make enough to pay it back. His insanity overwhelmed his ability to make that simplest of calculations. And the only reason he wasn’t completely ruined by the early '90s was the banks figured they’d use him as a figurehead because he was such an attention-seeker. He could easily have sunk beneath the waves and never been heard of again.

I’m very appreciative of our Prez as well but think he should be more careful, when speaking about the economy, about blanket statements about how much better things are today. At times in the past, the top 1% paid a much fairer share of taxes, and higher education didn’t break the bank. It’s a little bit of tone deafness that fuels insurgent Dems as well as Rust BElt resentments…

I think this is the right place for Obama to hit Trump. Clinton handles the policy questions quite well—and besides, everyone knows what Obama thinks of Trump.
But to call Trump a loser and a fake, albeit in genteel terms, is perfect.

Is there anyway this nitpicking can stop? A headline can synopsize a quote as long as its gist remains true and the actual quote can appear later in the lede. That’s what happened here. But WTF is with all the writing nitpicking going on in the TPM comments?

A deficit of moral sense over and above the deficit of moral sense it takes to be in the casino business in the first place. It’s rather awe-inspiring when you think about it.
