Discussion: Obama: My Worst Mistake As Prez Was Failure To Plan For ‘Day After’ In Libya (VIDEO)

Benghazi is not " been a key source of GOP criticism". It’s been an opportunity for criticism and there’s a difference. I hope all have learned. It doesn’t matter how good your intentions are or where you intervene in the Arab world ( Iraq or Libya ) it’s going to go to shit. Syria is going to go to shit. It’s the natural set point for that part of the world and the only thing they know.

TPM:

The 2012 terrorist attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, in which the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed, has been a key source of GOP criticism against Obama and Hillary Clinton, who then served as secretary of state.

Given that the same Republicans playing politics with Benghazi didn’t say jack shit about the 13 Benghazis that happened under George Bush’s watch, I don’t think anyone should be taking their continued and clearly partisan whinging seriously.

And no mention is ever made of those attacks either. You might want to read this fascinating interview by Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. Quite fascinating. Reads like a good novel.

Was Obama’s Cairo speech the spark for Arab Spring?

In '68 when the Soviets rolled into Czechoslovakia the Czech’s asked “why didn’t America help us?”

Accountability. It takes a big man to admit his mistakes. I say meh…at this point just let the little GOP/Teatrolls bite this giant’s ankles for all the good it does them. All they’ve managed so far is broken teeth anyway.

With that article in mind, Ambassador Stevens was in Libya, establishing business relationships, implementing “The Obama Doctrine” before he was killed.

Yes indeed.

For this afternoon’s project, compare and contrast Obama vs. Bush and their ability to learn from mistakes. For extra credit add a comparison between Biden and Cheney.

I know, I made you ill at the mention Bush and Cheney again.

That is one load of crap. He was a diplomat and loved by the Libyan people. You can revise history to show us how cool you are but it’s still crap. What the fuck is the “Obama Doctrine”…and can you cite a single reference to it made by the President? That’s a FOX news canard.

We were very isolated and exposed in Benghazi, and that’s how the CIA wanted it. There was no force protection for our people there because that would have made the secret nature of our activities in Benghazi more complicated. Stevens’ presence added a lot of stress to an already stressful place, and he died there.

Comparing Obama, who may be one of the best Presidents in history imo, to George W, who is in strong contention for one of the worst, seems like a petty waste of time at this point but this video of Bush is still fascinating considering where the country is now.

Did someone piss in your Post Toasties this morning?

The Obama Doctrine

When you’ve finished with that you might want to read this also.

It takes a big (sexy, fine ass) man to admit his mistakes. No one (sane) expected a presidency without bumps.

Mmm…my comment was meant as snark.

However…that interview is fucking unbelievably bad.

He just also provided excellent cover for Hillary on this subject. Thanks, Mr President - you really are trying to get her elected.

Yeah, I knew but it was a good opportunity to post that video where Bush thought the mission accomplished banner, US soldiers taking Happy-Snaps at Abu Ghraib and NOT finding WMD’s were his worst mistakes.

In foresight, I would have gone with “Chris Wallace interview” as my worst mistake.

Methinks Savannah will be having a word with Luther about this.

I can remember watching that live and not even being outraged. I suppose I was just too numb by that time.
