That is probably the most truthful remark made of this mess. There has never been a desire for peace between the two…that is why they are still killing each other after 75 years. But they do want to kill each other…and that is why they do it.

If Israel is using PA relations with Hamas as a reason to refuse to continue to negotiate, the PA should point out that the PA is willing to continue negotiations despite the presence in the Israeli government of:

  • Israelis who oppose two states, advocate the annexation of the West Bank, and suggest that the West Bank and Jerusalem be ethnically cleansed of Palestinians, if necessary with violence.

  • Israelis who have failed to condemn settler violence against Palestinians and their neighbors.

  • Israelis affiliated with individuals and parties who have denied the humanity of Palestinians, referring to them with terms such as “cockroaches”.

  • Israelis affiliated with individuals and parties who have hinted at support for Rabin’s assassin.
