Discussion: Obama Jabs 'Less-Than-Loving Christians' At Prayer Breakfast

Discussion for article #235090

These “prayer breakfasts” are not something a POTUS should be engaging in. Although, by calling out these Cafeteria Christians on their hypocritical bullshit, he has done something useful.

Well, it is bullshit but there is no way to stop attending but I love that he spoke out/

The man is pure class

This great President displays the patience of Job in the face of willful, ignorant vexation from proven failures and shouldn’t lower himself or the office with more than the graceful pokes he occasionally gives. I remain surprised at the lack of full-throated, joyful and acerbic opposition from our other ‘leaders’…the church-like quiet cannot all be the fault of bone lazy, corrupt media.

Amen to that. I Love, love, love this man

Another Prayer Breakfast…Seems like they have these every other week in DC now. Almost as often as some conservative confab. I really hate the blurring of boundaries between our secular government and religion on this regular basis. Wish they’d put a stop to this.

If he didn’t murder people on just a hunch or spy on us 24/7, maybe. I have no respect for him.

Obama IS being a bit hypocritical in calling out Cafeteria Christians while going AGAINST the teachings of Jesus Christ as stated in Matthew 6:5-8, which condemns public prayer…

Why never a Prayer 2nd Breakfast or Prayer Elevensies? I’m guessing most attendees indulge?

They asked Treebeard to speak at a Prayer Elevensies once and it lasted about three months.

LOL! Orc Senator McCain was rivited, though, at the breakneck pace. And, several Hobbits finally left still feeling a bit famished.

I think you misread that a bit. It’s not an admonishment not to pray publicly or with others. Those passages are speaking also and more to what’s in the hearts of those who do it…their intent…not just the mere act of praying publicly or with others. I’m no holy roller, but the point is that God will know if you’re false and putting on a show, versus sincere in your devotion and faith.

“Obama faced a barrage of criticism from the right earlier this year for his comments about Christianity at the National Prayer Breakfast. Critics berated him for stating that Christians shouldn’t get on their “high horse” about religious barbarism, given the Crusades and Christian backing for slavery and Jim Crow laws.”

Yeah the truth makes their heads explode. Too bad they don’t explode while they have them up their arses.

Now if, instead, he had told a story of child rape, murder and castration, he would be hailed as a conservative hero.

That is a huge downside to this administration.

"I have to say that sometimes when I listen to less-than-loving expressions by Christians I get concerned.”

I’d get concerned too by the fact that over 60% of white Evangelicals endorse the use of torture. Fucking hypocrites each and every one of them.

What I learned in my RC catechism class is coming back to me and I recall that each day of the week following Easter Sunday is significant and can be used to promote Christianity in any way possible.

I think you’re adding your own interpretation to the scripture–which is your right, of course. But Jesus (if he existed) is alleged to have been very emphatic that you should pray in private:
“…when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
