And I trust we’ve all registered that this kind of trolling–which is sweet, sweet schadenfreude in its own right–is ALSO bait that the GOP can’t resist: spittle flying, they fulminate about him, as POTUS takes the heat off Hillary and Bernie. He’s basically forcing GOP leadership and candidates to say outrageous anti-Obama things that will bite them in the ass during the general. I absolutely believe that this is intentional and strategic. Between Trump’s narcissistic insanity and POTUS’s expert trolling, the GOP is choking for lack of oxygen. Sweet, sweet, sweet.

It has been very distressing to me to see that all of the hope and belief we invested in the idea that the heads of conservative media and political figures could be made to literally explode by presidential trolling has been for naught. He’s run the experiment and it just isn’t working. You’d think the pressure building up would at least lead to some hairline stress skull fractures or, more prosaically, a few strokes, but no matter what he does, we get bupkis. It’s most disheartening.

No doubt he could. But I don’t think he would have been as fearless in his second term as he has been, if he was looking to run for a third one.

That said it’s entirely counterfactual; he can’t run for a third term.

I that the memo has gone out though we on the left have not heard about it telling them to hold their fire until after the election. The memo also advised the RWNs to hold their fire on talking about abortion in their typical inflammatory manner. They think softer talk about saying kitschy coo to grandkids will make them seem more lovable.
