Discussion for article #236319
On Tuesday, Brown said Obama’s statement was “disrespectful” and said that the President would not have used Warren’s first name if she were “a male senator.”
Really? Streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetching real hard .
Yea, if he was a Republican he’d already have had surrogates or billionaire-funded commercials call them the Squaw and the Hippie.
Does it make sense to be a member of Congress and accuse others of disrespect?
Pfft…W. didn’t even bother with surrogates. He gave EVERYONE a stupid and usually offensive nickname, and freely used them publicly and privately. Remember Turdblossom? I wish we all could forget that one…both the name and the person.
At least we’ll always have his legacy of inept portraiture…
Jeebus TPM, let it go! You’re becoming part of the problem.
RACE card PLAYER BALACK insaNE OHbUMMer IS DIsresPECTFUL OF the OFFIce of the SEnate. TYPICAL LIbtard disRESPECtfuLness!1!!!one!1!!!
And didn’t Dubya call David Gregory “Stretch”? Can you picture what would happen if this President called anyone in the press by any kind of nickname? I recall when he called CA.'s Attorney General Kamala Harris “by far the best-looking attorney general” and there was no fucking end to the accusations of sexism. This stuff ends up being so ridiculous and petty…
I can’t believe the level of nothingburger this has become. Bravo TPM for becoming part of the endless parade of stupid on this.
BTW, the gleeful way in which the MSM is going at this, is now generating quotes that this president is sexist. THIS president. The one who signed the Lily Ledbetter Act his first month in office. The one who is responsible for appointing 50% of the women sitting on SCOTUS. Who has hired more women and more WOC to his administration than any other.
THIS president. Proud of yourselves, you bunch of cackling stenographers? I have never been more embarrassed by, and for, the media in North America as I have been these past 15 years.
Obama has seen the revolving door. He is positioning himself for a very lucrative career after his presidency (just as Bill Clinton did.). What better way to do it than trashing Elizabeth Warren?
Right. Because her hands are clean on the jabs?
She’s not parlayed this into a whole series of fundraising emails?
GTFOH.
Agree. Its one thing for politicians to play these games of smoke and mirrors (unfortunately, that’s what they do by definition) but when the press instigates this nonsense, it really is time to put away the stenography notebook and move on to another vocation. Clearly they’ve run out of substantive stuff to write about.
Warren is a champion of ordinary working Americans. Obama is a champion of Wall Street oligarchs.
What absolute bullshit.
But then, when I consider the source . . . . .
Tell us what the TPP means to us, and spare the childish distractions.
A profile the other week in The New Yorker I think tell you everything you need to know about Elizabeth Warren and Elizabeth Warren and her relationship with Obama. I never thought much of her and think even less of here now.
Not sure why many are upset at TPM. Sherrod Brown started this crap, and now it’s up to him to end it.
Leave it to the press… and apparently TPM… to focus on the least significant aspect of this kerfuffle. In general I support the President but I think in this case it’s ridiculous for him to criticize progressives for harboring deep suspicions about the TPP when the actual text is still a secret to the public. Warren is right to call you out, and right to oppose fast tracking congressional approval.
I’m sorry Mr President but neither you nor the rest of the federal government has earned a sufficient level of trust from the public to just take you at your word that TPP is a good thing for the US economy.
If it really is as good a thing as you claim it to be, show us what’s in the treaty.
After criticizing TPM’s reporting on this issue yesterday, I have to admit that the reporting here may be hampered by the fact that TPM has yet to fill the vacancy created by Sahil Kapur leaving for Bloomberg News.
