I believe that would be WJC in 1998.
Here ya go:
And why was it Obamaās fault that the base didnāt turn out in two elections where he was basically shut out from campaigning for D candidates? At some point, the Democratic base needs to take responsibility for our own stupidity. Because Republicans turn out. It doesnāt matter who, how milquetoast, how over the top, how inspiring or uninspiring their candidates are, they still turn out.
I may give a flying f about Bernieās vision for the Democratic Party if Bernie ever deigns to become a Democrat. Until those pigs fly, I hope that President Obama will confine his future meetings to actual Democrats.
Under Trumpās leadership weāve turned that around and started winning again. #googlecorrelationcausationposthocergopropterhoc
Push your wife to run dude. God sheād win by the biggest landslide ever!
Meeting with Bernie is a good idea. It takes away his ability to whine about being colluded against by the Democrats in a rigged system.
We know he will do so when things go against him and he doesnāt get the votes, but it buys us some time before that inevitably day.
Team Trump is already doing oppo research on all prospective Dem candidates with a eye to destroying them before they get started.
Agreed, I think the Democratic position is to contain, entertain, and somewhat appease him. It gives him a shot in the arm of the ego juice he so desperately craves.
Worth a lot more than 2 cents. I think if Brown convincingly wins re-election this year, the buzz for him will become an a big, booming overture, for all the reasons you describe, and more. Especially, heās the one guy I want to see on the debate stage with Trump. Thereās no way that Trump would try to invade Brownās space; if he did, Brown would reduce Trump to the piece of puff pastry that he is. Your suggestion of Tammy Duckworth is also really interesting. I hadnāt thought of her in that role at this time, especially with a young child, and coming from cobalt blue Illinois, but I do like her on the debate stage opposite Pence. The American people would certainly see a picture of true American patriotism and courage. And that would not be a picture of Mike Pence.
I would tend to agree with you, but with our democracy in the balance, I think there is a strong case to be made for a long term politician who has built alliances throughout his/her career working on bringing us back to something close to normal.
I know I am going to be most apt to vote for the person who will fight for bringing us back to a democracy.
He has reportedly met with contenders including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), former Vice President Joe Biden, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D), former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D), former Missouri Senate candidate Jason Kander (D), and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D).
Per Politico, Obama also had a one-on-one with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) when he was out of town, and hosted Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) last year.
I know that its still early and anything can happen, but hmmm.
now its gotta go to a vote, butā¦
President Obama is a smart man, and a smart politician. So of course he would meet with Bernie. Because whether Bernie runs in 2020 or not, and whether he gains the nomination or not, smart Democrats will continue to engage constructively with him for the obvious reason that he has many supporters and Dems need every voter they can get, both in 2018 and 2020.
And contrary what one might think if TPM comment threads were the only source of information on how Democrats feel about Bernie, polling shows heās viewed favorably by the vast majority of rank-and-file Democrats (as well as very high net favorables among independents).
Good. That is the first good news Iāve seen today.
Heās too old. He was too old in 2016 and heās older now.
its gotta go to a vote
I read it. I know.
Spot on @pluckyinky. At this point I think he driven more by ego than ideology.
