Ah yes! Trump Family Values. The stuff of Republican “Real America” pride:
Republican Party candidates proudly campaign on a platform extolling strong, conservative family values: the sanctity of marriage, respect for women, treating children with dignity. Which makes Donald Trump’s candidacy so ironic, given how the G.O.P. candidate for president routinely and enthusiastically flouts the aforementioned qualities. So now the Senate is on the line AND the House may be in play, we will hear this line for the next 24 days, a lot, and Obama’s speech in Columbus last night was just one indication. I think honestly we are running out of time for OH Senate, but this can make significant difference to close races.

It’s pretty mind-blowing when Mr. Tony Perkins, a leader of the “Values Voter Coalition”, says that his endorsement of Mr. Trump is not “based on values”.

Yesterday the Obama’s showed that term limits for 1/3 of government but not the other, is just plain stupid.
No, Obama did not let this country down by not giving fiery enough speeches every single night, or refusing to pound the bully pulpit with his fists every night on prime time.
We did, by not voting in 2010 and 2014.
Republicans did by fueling this crazy free-for-all. The best President Obama could do was give them enough rope to hang themselves, and that he’s done.
What you see here is the pent-up consequences of this eight-year rage fest. Don’t credit Trump with destroying the Republican Party; the credit goes to President Barack Hussein Obama.
Mission accomplished.

The analogy to Nazi Germany writes itself. The ruling class rationalized that Hitler would get rid of the communists, so they let him have the power, thinking they had the control.

An interesting comment not included in the story was President Obama saying he had more sympathy for people that believed all the crazy talk than the Republicans who actually knew better but stood silently aside for partisan advantage.

There is absolutely no detail of our political process that is more frustrating to me than the turnout falloff among progressives in the mid-terms and off-year elections.

I don’t think he let the country down, I just think he could have done more to call them on their crazy. To hold them accountable for their stupid rants of FEMA Camps and death panels instead of just ignoring it, I think, would have greatly helped change the debate during those years. Though I totally agree with you about Dems not showing up in the midterms. So I’m glad to see today’s news about Eric Holder agreeing to go after midterms and state legislatures in 2020. I’m an Obama fan. I used to work with him in the Illinois legislature. I knew him when very few did. He’s a remarkable person and I’ll defend him and am proud of his tenure.
