Discussion for article #222855

Sure hope this is true!! I fell in love with the Castro twins during the last Democratic convention. Really impressive.

Looks like Biden has competition for the VP slot in 2016.

I’ve had this guy as my 2024 pick for years now. I tease the crazies on the right wing sites with that all the time. They are already about to blow over half-black Obama and the thought of Hillary-a Woman and a Clinton being their President for the following eight years has them at a full boil. If they even hear that another Democrat will be their President for the next eight years after Hillary and that he’s Mexican, they go ballistic.

It’s funny because they say that we won’t even be a nation any longer before Obama is out of office and then in the same breath they say that the Democrats will still be ruining the nation with Hillary and especially with all of the other Dems that are sure to follow. How’s that for reasoning?

Am I the only one who was thoroughly unimpressed with his convention speech? I remember seeing Obama at the 2004 convention and feeling electrified, and thinking “this guy is definitely going to be President” (and despite the claims in 2008 that he “came completely out of nowhere”, a lot of people, even in the pundit class, said the same thing at the time). Maybe it was because the 2012 convention was better overall compared to 2004, with John Kerry running, or because Castro was hyped so much so my expectations were high. But I found both the content to be nothing noteworthy and his delivery thoroughly lackluster.

I don’t know much about his politics so I can’t say anything beyond that. But it’s hard to be a presidential contender if you can’t rally people to get excited in some way.

Obama is truly sui generis; whatever one thinks of his political skill set in general (and on the whole I think rather a lot of it, but ymmv), nobody can write or deliver a major speech like he can. Bill Clinton can’t be matched on the plain-speaking, semi-improvised talk of the kind he did at the convention, but even he can’t touch him when it comes to a formal address. To compare any other politician’s oratory with Obama’s simply isn’t fair. I thought Castro was terrific.

My recollection was that it was a hell of a speech and that it was O’Malley who fell flat by comparison to the barnburners by Castro and Patrick on either side of him.

I did like Patrick. He was very disappointing his first couple of years as governor, despite high hopes after the disastrous tenure of Mitt Romney, but has gotten much better. I thought his speech was much better than Castro’s.

I am a huge O’Malley fan.

Sorry for Julian to be dumped into the 9th ring of hell that is Washington, D.C., but I wish him well all the same. You just cannot have any expectations for a specific outcome once you become engulfed in a bottomless swamp.

competition for the VP slot in 2016.

And whether the Republican Hispanic Veep candidate is Susana MartĂnez or that despised-by-the-right Rubio, looks like the Dems have got one too. Teatroll on that.

Pretty sly really. Like making Hillary the SOS sly. Castro obviously has the Hispanic box checked and has an equally impressive brother to help fan out and cover more area. Now, he can check off DC experience if chosen.
Then, he’s The San Antonio Mayor. That picks up a hell of a lot of votes in Texas and those are the votes that are going to be the end of Texas’ right-wing/white-wing domination and possibly all hope for the Republicans nationwide.

The Republicans war on women will look like a rock throwing contest compared to how insane they’ll get when they inevitably go on full assault in their War on Mexicans.

Castro/Castro 2024 : )
