I would add, where the frack is Israel?

  1. Syria is on its border.
  2. It is still officially at war with Syria.
  3. Israel has periodically over the years shelled, bombed and carried out assassinations on targets within Syria.
  4. It has been Likud’s published policy position since 1982 that shattering the central governments of Iraq, Lebanon and Syria would allow the different ethnic and religious factions within these states to go their separate, contentious ways. Consequently, Israel’s own regional hegemony would be assured and unchallengeable (except possibly by Iran).

The US has already shattered the central government of Iraq, to its own, and to Iraq’s much greater, woe. Let’s not make of Syria Culture Wars, Episode 5: The Neocons Strike Back !
