Discussion for article #226123
The world is full of complicated, dangerous situations. While there are few easy answers and all may not turn out as hoped, I am grateful that we have a thoughtful, cautious leader making these difficult decisions.
And Sippy Cupp on FB has already posted there’s going to be boots on the ground. Weren’t the RW pissing and moaning about POTUS Obama ignoring the crap out of ISIS for months on end?
I agree. This is a no win, but Obama is being thoughtful and cautious and humane. What more could we ask for?
I listened to him on NPR as I was driving home. As a retired military officer I must say that I am so damned happy, proud even of this country for electing an adult to our nations highest office.
F*%K his naysayers and F*^K other politicians who do their venal best to denigrate this man for not playing their petty fricking games. He promised change, maybe we all do not agree what constitutes change in our own opinions. But if you really believe that his administration has not functioned in a manner inconsistent with that of his predecessor on many if not most vital issues of the day well, F&*K you too.
If we never would of gone to war in Iraq in the first place none of this would be happening to day. Thanks for nothing G W Cheney!
It is important for us to hear that from you. As a former military officer, your opinion carries weight. Nothing he did would ever earn any kind of grudging agreement or support from the naysayers, so he can only make the decisions he thinks are the wisest under the circumstances.
Cue the rants from Ralph Peters, Allen West, and Ollie North…
Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.
And all because GWB wanted Saddam’s handgun so he couldn’t try to shoot his Daddy no more.
I’m just glad Mccain and Romney never got elected. We would be sending our 11 year old’s to cover all the wars we would be in by now.
A democrat super majority !
Air power? What we should have done in 2003. GJ
Sunni and Shi’a didn’t like each other before the Iraq war and they still don’t…and come what may, they still won’t. These people are hopeless and the people that killed the electric car are pure evil.
I knew I liked you for a good reason, Sooner. I am not retired military, but did two tours and out, but left active duty as a Master Sargent (I was drafted, so not in my plan for life). This President, who never served, is such a comfort to me. He respects the military but doesn’t abuse or misuse the assets.
well, yeah. That too.
Just got back from political. the gop but lickers are in full force demonizing Mr obama for being the grown up As expected. Im sure fox news writers have called an emergency meeting on how to attchk the prez in the morning.
THIS is leadership. GOPer leadership is Rick Perry sending 1,000 National Guard troops to the border.
This could easily drag out for months and it may only delay the inevitable. Obama used airstrikes to unseat Qaddafi in Libya, now Obama is doing the same in Iraq against ISIS. I hope he has better luck this time around.
We are now seeing the aftermath of an ill conceived war that was brought in by the previous administration.
This is an impossible situation. Bush destabilized Iraq when he invaded it in 2003. Now it’s overrun with extremists. This was what sensible people predicted would happen back then.
Using more force is probably just going to embolden the extremists and give them fodder to convert more Iraqis to their side. But doing nothing just leaves them in power too.
Given that there’s no unseating ISIS at this point (and there isn’t without a full scale global war), it doesn’t really seem sensible to do some air strikes. We barely contained the country when we had 100,000+ people on the ground. Now that this has blown up, the whole region is gone.
This is all on Bush’s shoulders. God, how long are we going to have to live with his mistakes?
