Discussion for article #226999
Well that is certainly a relief.
It would appear we have enough military engagements as it is.
I have never doubted for a minute that Obama would not get us mired in Iraq again
It might be a bit early to say that, but I am hoping for the best this time around.
Nah. Obama isn’t going there. I don’t believe there is anything that would make him change his mind.
ISIS (or whatever their current name is) could easily get us mired in Iraq/Syria. The situation in the area is very complex and shifting by the day. Those people (ISIS) are about as nasty as they come and present a clear and present danger to the people of Iraq, Syria and every other country in the area… and to us. We are already assisting Iraqi Kurds by air strikes. it’s not an unheard of step to put boots on the ground. As it is Obama recently sent around 150 "advisors " to the Kurdish city of Irbil in Northern Iraq which shortly by the War powers ACT will require Obama to notify Congress of his intentions.
Two nations still armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons cannot afford to get involved in a shooting war with one another.
Period.
Unfortunately, knowledge of this fact empowers Putin to send troops into Ukraine.
This would never have happened if Ukraine had been a member of NATO.
I believe that Obama is both an adult and our president. I expect him to do whatever he believes to be in the best interests of this county at any given point in time when the situation requires it. And I will support him completely.
There are myopic posters here who bemoan anything he does that involves military action, I’m not one of them. The previous occupant not so much. I and my group of retired military officers opinions and advice were totally ignored in the run-up to invading Iraq and I feel deeply for this man who had this shit sandwich served up to him upon assuming the office of POTUS.
And until the nattering nabobs of negativity can offer up a better solution than sticking this country’s head in the sand which is no solution at all, I’ll continue to have faith in Obama and his decisions.
Look, no body…NO one hates war more than soldiers who have seen combat. But we have to be pragmatic about the situation we’re in and the consequences of our future actions. And taking no action has very serious consequences.
So I’ll leave simple solutions like doing nothing to the simpletons and myopic purists to blather on about.
And there it is for you.
Thank You.
