Discussion: Obama Asking Congress For $1.8B In Emergency Funding To Fight Zika Virus

Discussion for article #245692

Haha…GOPers/Teatrolls are gonna be pissed. He just just called their bluff…“have fun denying this request and then trying to be the people scaring us everyone about Zika as an election strategy.” Granted, I don’t think this is purely political, not for BO, but the response certainly will be.

Well, I’m just certain Republicans will be beating a path to line up to help these innocent babies and pregnant women. I’m told they care deeply about the unborn. What’s that you say? I see.

So far, the only recent case that has been transmitted within the U.S. is believed to have occurred in Texas through sex.

Which probably means Conservatives in Congress will resist allocating funding.

Will they (the GOP-dominated Congress) put their money where their mouths are? I will not hold my breath.

The mosquito that is know to carry the Zika virus is endemic to Texas (and not just the coastal areas):

I think it is highly likely that transmission of Zika will occur by mosquito in Texas - the article linked to indicates tire shops, cemeteries and residential areas are all possible habitats.

Nice job Mr. President, way to go big. Requesting near two BILLION dollars to stop something that the Repubs desperately need, which is another virus scare, will totally bumfuzzled them.
They don’t really want it to go away and they don’t want to help anyone anywhere with a single penny, let alone billions of dollars.

President Obama didn’t just call their bluff, he raised and went all in.
