Discussion: Obama Adviser Valerie Jarrett: President Has 'Cabin Fever'

Discussion for article #223947

Sometimes people forget that the Presidency is a destructive office. President Grover Cleveland once told FDR as a boy that “He hoped FDR would never be President.” for just this reason.Imagine how it would be today for someone like Cleveland. who was both the 22nd and 24th Presidents.near the turn of the 20th Century.

Former Presidents in the post WW I environment, right up until today and continuing on for almost ever, in the age of Cable TV news, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and “selfies” will never ever again enjoy anonymity, other than in their guarded enclaves in the NY hills, the desolate red clay plains of Georgia, on their private Maine seaside penninsulas, or walled-in luxury condo complexes of Texas. His wife and children will, unfortunately, be hounded by press and photographers for 20+ more years, too. I would imagine Obama will return to Chicago briefly, but he is young and will travel the world as an humanitarian for a while, write his memoirs, and wind up back in Hawaii, where most people will treat him as an average Hawaiian-born American, and not pay him much mind and he can live out his years as an historic figure in American politics, defeated only by an angry U.S. Congress who refused to work with him for almost all 8 of years.

Dana Perino commenting is part of the ongoing Bush fiasco: She’s lucky she’s not in jail.

We knew governing wasn’t one of dubya’s priorities.

"There were times the president wanted to go on a bike ride," Perino said, "but I’d have to say, ‘Mr. President, there was a bombing in Iraq,’ or ‘The markets are tanking.’"

"She speaks from experience — Bush vacationed during Hurricane Katrina and made frequent visits to Camp David or his Texas ranch to fulfill his desire to get outdoors

I can foresee Obama returning to Washington D.C. but only after an appointment to SCOTUS by a wise Democratic president.

“…There were times the president wanted to go on a bike ride, but I’d have to say…”

So she’s the one to blame for the idiocy called media relations. How about media people stop trying to socially engineer news cycles and let people live their lives?

Well you know what happens to a person who is " All work and no play ".

With the technologies at hand, there are no doubts that the President can manage all of his duties from wherever he happens to be. It’s a 24/7/365 relentless job. Both sides of the isle should really quit criticize these “vacations” at every turn of the road, it gets old pretty quickly.

Ol’ W misses being POTUS. He said especially that big ol’ airplane.

She had to have that conversation every day.

Two things about which a President can’t realistically do anything.

Except that Bush disconnected from everything but a fax machine when he went to Texas. He ceded running “important” things to the NSA and Cheney. For weeks. His productivity was markedly less than any president before him, including his father. He’d never worked so hard in his life and I’ll never forget how he whined about it in the first debate against Kerry. “We work HARD…” He stopped just short - caught himself - as he started to describe the heinousness of people bringing in faxes at all times of the day and night.

So no, let’s not drop criticizing GWB’s vacations - they were epic.

Little weenie, it’s aisle. These problems do not occur on an isle unless they were all gathered in Maui. Or Tahiti.

To his dying day bush will say there was nothing he could do once he was warned that bin Laden was determined to strike in the U.S.

Yes, years and years of experience as a hypocrite. Hypocrisy is one of the “values” Republicans cherish most.

Speaking briefly of Fools, isn’t it nice to not have Foolmemore posting if only for a week? His banishment has raised the level of conversation here to a much higher level.

Troll is so dumb that when filling out job applications it must go to a bathroom to check its gender.

“Obama has fantasized about being “on a beach somewhere drinking out of a coconut” or simply being able to walk out of the White House gate and stroll around unrecognized.”

I am sorry sir but that’s not gonna be happening any time soon. You will have the guys in dark suits following you for the rest of your natural days. One never escapes this sort of notoriety. ever.

I had to check that, he’s been banned until June 21, but I hadn’t missed him. There’s a good bunch here and I’m learning who’s worth tuning into and who’s not.
