According to the Blade’s report, agencies including the Departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education collaborated on a review of HB2 after its passage to determine whether it would prompt the government to halt funding to the state.
Something I’d like to point out to anyone who considers this issue important (speaking to folks like you, Caitlyn Jenner, among others): Only under a thoughtful and caring administration will you ever get this type of proper response. I sincerely doubt under a Republican administration you’d even get a “meh” from ANY of the federal departments. Like in years past, all of the heavy lifting would fall on non-profits and individual citizens to fund any possible credible legal challenge to these mean-spirited, nasty Republican-driven laws.
If you cannot bring yourself to vote this November all because your man or woman wasn’t chosen to be the Democratic nominee against all that is evil, then … (I wanted to say “fuck you,” here, but) you have no heart and/or obviously lack critical thinking skills.

This is something that has been happening from the very beginning. Obama is to damned much of a decent person to be in Washington. If Hillary would of won back then not only would the bush administration be facing at least investigations or their war of choice from the very beginning but she would of told the GOP to go fuck themselves. My understanding is that Clinton “can be a real bitch”. Well that is what we need to beat the donald and the GOP once she is in office.
Some one has to be the sheriff. And she is the one for the job.
Why would there be any loss of business dollars? There isn’t any loss of federal dollars, after all. If you wouldn’t withhold dollars while it’s under litigation, why should businesses? The administration just provided an excuse to every wavering private business or group to go ahead and invest in states who pass these laws. Indeed this action green-lights every state to pass these laws without threat of harm, and actually helps to neuter the efforts of some private businesses to stand against them. “Go ahead Apple, be courageous; but you’re all alone on this one.”

Because business does not have legal responsibilities in this respect – they can show their disapproval by moving away or not coming to NC. Government, on the other hand, has to follow the law to the T. To be on a solid ground it must show (in court in this case since NC disputes the finding) that the law is unconstitutional before it can withhold the funds. Nevertheless, for the time being the very fact of a lawsuit, the expectation of the government’s win and possibility of withholding funds in the future will put significant pressure on NC government. Will it have an immediate effect? Probably not. But more likely than not this is the most prudent course of action that maximizes the possibility of progress both on the legal and societal fronts.

The power to withhold these funds are specifically granted to the executive branch as an enforcement tool to ensure that citizens rights are protected from violation by these states. It’s what they’re there for! Your argument fits perfectly with every segregationist and every “states rights” bigot’s whine from the past half-century.

Withholding funds is not the only tool the administration has, and regardless of their right to do so, it hurts educators and students. We don’t need to make this state less educated. Also, it gives the nc leg an excuse to say, “Well, we were planning to give teachers raises, but the feds cut off our funding.”
Yes, they are allegedly working on a bill for teacher raises.
I wish they could defund something the republicans cared about. The problem is they don’t really give a shit about anything.
The only thing that’s shaky is the relationship between so-called conservatives who identify as originalists and the very Constitution they purport to hold sacrosanct. That is a relationship of convenience, not principle.
