Discussion: NYT: Video Contradicts Trump Admin's Claim That Maduro Forces Burned Aid Trucks

A spokesperson for the National Security Council, which Bolton leads, said: ā€œMaduro is responsible for creating the conditions for violence ā€¦ His thugs denied the entry of tons of food and medicine, while thousands of courageous volunteers sought to safeguard and deliver aid to Venezuelan families.ā€

No defending Maduro here, but heā€™s not separating little kids from their parents with no plans to reunite them, is he?

And speaking of ā€œcreating the conditions for violenceā€, does this also apply to Trump rallies?

Responding to the Times, a Rubio spokesperson said ā€œMaduro bears full responsibility for the destruction of humanitarian aid.ā€

(The Times reported that claims medicine was among the trucksā€™ cargo are unsubstantiated, as well.)

Never let the facts get in the way of the buildup to invade a small, defenseless foreign country with oil.

Itā€™s simply impossible to trust the Trump Administration (or Rubio) on any issue as they lack any credibility. Itā€™s an Administration replete with liars and g-ddamn liars.

If the NYT could reach that conclusion so could analysts in the DOD and IC. Weā€™ve been down this road before and itā€™s not a road that takes you anywhere good.

OF COURSE thereā€™s hard evidence of the lies. Thatā€™s why we can count them. Team Trump doesnā€™t care. Neither does his base.

I have the feeling that the Trump admin is creating a war against a foe they donā€™t feel that threatened by in service of associating Venezuelan socialism with the democrats. Theyā€™re trying to see if they can make that association for the 2020 election. Literally starting a war for political purposes (not that it hasnā€™t been done before).

ETA: Iā€™m sure itā€™s just a coincidence the little sabotage thingy going on with their electricity grid right now.

So the GOP is conceding that leaders create the conditions for violence?

Trumpā€™s Brazilian Mimi-me, Bolsonaro, appears to be the orange oneā€™s main Latin American supporter. I donā€™t know the political dynamics here, but in the past, the prospect of interference in South American affairs by the Yanqui scourge, was not looked upon with favor. Monitor what Bolsonaro does.

Had fairly open minded friends just returned from Costa Rica tell me that because of Ortega the people of Nicaragua are reduced to eating rats. When I pointed out the importance of questioning anything that includes a denigration of Ortega in it because the USA has been trying to take him down for decades as they are doing to the legally elected Venezuelan government she became offended that I would question a Costa Ricans tale of what was behind the influx of immigrants from that beleaguered nation into Costa Rica. Since the evil days of Condi"Super Tanker"Rice at the top of the Dim Son regime our main policy in Latin/South America remains getting rid of the vestiges of the Bolivarian Revolution so that the American Banana Company( or whatever the current iteration of American corporate dominance may be) can flourish and buy all the politicians of the country. The importance of questioning everything let alone those spoken with the name of our fav despot of the day included had been forgotten by my once open minded friend.

Trump must go. I suspect that people will be reduced to this simple truth in the coming months.

Iā€™ve had that same feeling on occasion but I also really really hope it doesnā€™t take us to a place where Dems are defending Maduro in some sort of reflexive need to be on ā€œthe other sideā€ of every statement out of the administration. The people of Venezuela have a genuine need. Maduro brought them to that place of need and desperation. I hope we donā€™t forget that in our knee-jerk rush to disagree with everything Trump.

How about a healthy dose of American government sanctions on food and drugs helped put them in the state of disrepair they are today? American sabotage of economies( power distribution etc.) is what we do rather than in your face regime change. When the sanctions donā€™t work to our satisfaction we just conjure up a lie and invade with our vast armada, air force and ground troops. Venezuela is hurting no doubt but why is regime change Americaā€™s primary response to that sad state of affairs? What kind of deals did EXXON/Chevron/Texaco cut with Guido to be the face of the government opposition do you suppose? Maduroā€™s Venezuela is in bad shape but regime change by going back to the ruling plutocratic party that the Chavez uprising replaced is not healthy for the country either. Best we just stay the fuck out of it for a change Iā€™ld say. But thatā€™s not what the oil industry wants so off we go hi ho hi ho.

Found some footage from nearby the transformer just before the accident.

Justā€¦no. The Obama administration sanctioned several individuals in the Venezuelan government. That is not a broad sanction on food and drugs.

I donā€™t think weā€™re in any danger of going there. There are a lot of despots around the globe that we donā€™t remove. You can hate the guy and still say that itā€™s a matter for their own population to handle.

Nothing seems particular about Venezuela except that some ex-pats golf at Mar-a-Lago.

Invading other countries for your golfing pairs doesnā€™t seem like a good basis for executing foreign policy.
