Discussion: NYT: Trump Pressured Top Senate Republicans To End Russia Probes

He told the Times that he was not moved by Trump’s comments and suggested that Trump made the comments because he’s “never been in government.”

Nah. He’s guilty and wants them to stop digging.

And then there is this rather cryptic tweet from Josh.

I hear the worst stuff about Trump and the Committees isn't even in the NYT article.

You know, in any other administration, this act alone would be immediate grounds for impeachment. The case for Obstruction of Justice, if this is verifiable which it seems it is, just got a whole lot stronger.

The fact that Burr is on the record here is quite extrordinary. Again, not a lawyer, but if true this would appear to be ‘open-shut’ obstruction. Oh and there’s this…

I hope we get follow up with more details. Josh is such a tease

If Trump’s statements to Burr were over the summer, by that point Trump had been in government several months holding the highest office on the planet, and none of this would have been Trumps first go-around with legal matters. He’s not some child with no frame of reference just wandering into movie wanting to know the ending. And the Russia investigations were’n’t new. Trump has all the legal counsel anybody could hope for when being investigated for these or any other type of serious allegations. Trump knew he should’t be doing this. If somehow he didn’t, he and his legal team are even more brazenly incompetent than we thought.

Well, I for one, cannot wait to hear Sarah Huckabuck’s lies and spin on this. She will Trumpsplain to everyone’s satisfaction, I’m sure.

The President went on national television and said the reason for firing the head of the FBI was because he was investigating the President. He then went on to make that same argument to the Russian Ambassador and Foreign Minister, again in front of the press.

It’s really hard to top that for open-shut obstruction.

Yes, the “he is new to government” argument is getting a little thin and it was never a legitimate excuse in any case. “Oh, officer, I have only been driving a little while and I did not know that running over pedestrians in crosswalks was not allowed.”

[/quote]Kind of like me pulling a gun and saying, “Everybody get on the floor, this is a robbery” and the banker tells the police, “I didn’t take it seriously because the guy has never been in the bank before.”

“You mean Deathrace 2000 was a FICTIONAL movie? I did not know that. I thought I got points for running over pedestrians”

Sadly, Donald apparently watched a political version of DeathRace 2000. :frowning:

The Socio path in the White House his Achilles’ heel is he thinks he’s untouchable. He continually breaks the law is an obstructionist he’s in interfering in an investigation. He needs to be removed from office because he’s insane. Call your congressman ASAP! Demand that Donald Trump is removed because he is mentally unfit, morally unfit to maintain hold the highest office in the land. He is diminishing the office and diminishing our status in the world. Like the glaciers that her milk that cannot be replenished this president is removing our status in the world we will no longer be able to maintain our status with this man at the helm.

Burr said he told Trump that “when we have exhausted everybody we need to talk to, we will finish.” He told the Times that he was not moved by Trump’s comments and suggested that Trump made the comments because he’s “never been in government.”

F you, Senator. The death of this country will be on your shoulders.

Would something like that be ‘admissible’ as evidence for obstruction?

White House spokesman Raj Shah denied that Trump tried to pressure Republican leaders, telling the New York Times that the President “at no point has attempted to apply undue influence on committee members.”

This is what we’ve come to, parsing over how much influence a U.S. President has exerted to try to stop an investigation into whether an enemy nation tried to rig our elections.

At the very least this woild mean that Mueller will have to investigate yhis claim and interview Burr.

Burr isn’t the brightest bulb in the Senate, but so far, with regards to the investigation into the Russian obstruction has been at least not outwardly off. I also suspect that Burr would not risk withholding information, or lying to Mueller’s team. Thus this maybe very clear, usable evidence

When he launches the nukes and KKKelly claims he can’t stop him because, you know, president, will the GOPers in congress still use the “but he’s so new to government” excuse?

He made sure that he was alone - excused all of his aides - when he made these requests. Just like his dinner/meetings/calls with Comey, there is a clear consciousness of guilt.

We’re in big trouble here and all the GOP is focused on is tax cuts. They’re all traitors.

Seems Mueller’s opinion of “undue” should carry more weight than that of the administration
