From what I’ve read, Cobb has wanted to do the right thing by doing what’s required legally without wasted court fights over evidence and witnesses. And Trump won’t have that any more - he’s cornered and wants to fight wildly. Dowd has put himself in ethical jeopardy trying to protect Trump. That’s his own fault, but he’d probably be happy to be done with it at this point.
DiGenova will fight like Trump wants, with lies, conspiracy theories, delaying tactics, attacks on the FBI investigation and special counsel’s office. And diGenova needs this case for his profile and ego. Perhaps he’ll even get his own Wikipedia page, instead of people being redirected to his wife’s, Victoria Toensing’s, page when they type in “Joseph diGenova” - that’s gotta hurt.
Trump doesn’t have a “legal team”. He has a hodge-podge of lawyers of varying capabilities. A team is a group of people who play well together. Far from coordinating tactics and strategy, I doubt that Trump’s lawyers even speak to each other.
This is working out like the ole mob wars years ago.

What decent lawyer wants a client who feels “emboldened” and will only take his own advise because he has a “good brain”? Answer: none.
The only type of lawyer Trump will get is someone extremely ideological (DiGenova) or someone on his way down and out (Dershowitz).
He won’t get anyone even close to the level of Mueller’s prosecutors.

A brilliant legal strategy. Right as your team is negotiating with the Special Counsel about the inevitable interview…start replacing them! Because consistency and preparation are always huge detriments.

But he won’t defend. Which, I agree, is what Trump wants..but they are called defense attorneys for a good reason.
I am also a bit skeptical of this report for two intertwined reasons. 1) Its Maggie again and 2) its another “he might, he is thinking about” story. And its filled with “One source says X, but another source says Y” caveats.
This administration doesn’t use these type of stories to float trial balloons. They use them purely for misdirection, and to feed the chaos of their internal factional fighting.

Maggie is too egotistical in her own right to ever work well with Trump. And she is much more effective for him where she is. For some odd reason, there are people who still fawn over her, and having the NYT behind her helps give her cred. Though its destroying the NYT’s own cred with every article and tweet she sends out.
