What you say is absolutely true even as recently as 8 years ago. If the NYT is correct on this and I believe it is, it explains why the Rethugs are so blase about Russian hacking.

One senior government official told the Times that the attempts to hack the RNC were unsuccessful.
Often, “close to the source” is included, but this phrase is notable by its absence. So this official was likely not close to the source and the information may be opinion or misinformation. Which agency? How senior ?
Could it be someone at the NY FBI? The same source used to “debunk” the Russian hacking story before the election.
Why is the NYT acting like a big oil or tobacco company PR firm?
Spicer is a god-damn lying punk. Russian intelligence and its proxies hack everybody. They’ve hacked the NSA, for Christ’s sake. It’s who they leak that matters. No reasonable person could possibly fail to see what’s going on.
I think what we’re going to need to do after 1/20 is to talk to everyone we know and make them see that from that day on we cannot trust our government to tell us the truth about anything. That the GOP is a dictatorial force concerned only with power. And that the government is not legitimate and must, must be changed. That’s going to be a really, really difficult thing for people to understand intellectually or accept emotionally but it’s up to everyone who’s aware to start getting this word out.

Exactly! After HO is installed, Putin goes about retaking the old Soviet bloc nations – and if NATO or the U.S. tries to do anything about it: “Why, HO, we’ve got this info on your past dealings with … and if you don’t call off the wolves, it would be a real shame if that info showed up on BrickShit News and FOX Entertainment, wouldn’t it?” He has no leverage either because he’s more in debt than most people know and he’s dependent on Russian cash for cash flow.

This means they’re using it as leverage. And the Republicans, presumably, are complying with their demands.
The Republican Party has been compromised by foreign interests.
This should be the only thing the media is talking about on every channel. They should be pre-empting regular programming for this. This is a bad spy movie in real life.
That BBC film explained literally and I mean that literally everything to me about what I’ve been feeling and what everyone else has been feeling - that this is not real. That’s the feeling because that’s what we have = a deliberate effort to unhinge our politics and ultimately our entire civic and social lives from actual reality. It’s terrifying but now I can see it. Now I know what has happened.
Now I wonder why Wikileaks DIDN’T release any of those Republican documents that the Russians hacked–could it have something to do with BLACKMAIL???
