Discussion: NYT: Obama Could Send U.S. Ground Troops To Help Rescue Iraqi Refugees

Discussion for article #226353

Blackhawk down anyone? Don’t send in a halfhearted military effort please, Mr. President. Either nothing or full Hillary Clinton please. Preferably nothing where troops are concerned.

You are much more confident of that than I am. Nor is he anonymous.

“Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser,”

This isn’t some intern that overheard something at the water cooler.

In the space of just a few weeks we have gone from 200 military advisors to 300 to 420 today. We have gone from a mission of only protecting US personnel and property to protecting minority groups literally over night.

And now discussion are being had about deploying US troops to help those minority groups.

I am sorry, but the assertion of no boots on the ground is fading fast in the rear view mirror on this one.

I’m being an optimist, but you may well be right.

So the NY Times is reporting the President is getting a full menu of humanitarian rescue options??? They’re still the Iraq War Cheerleaders…they can’t help themselves.

Presidents have and get contingency plans for sht we can’t dream up. This isn’t a story…this is about scaring some liberals, whom can give a sht about the Yazidis.

Makes sense to me.

PLEASE stop with the nuance though, no “Could Send”, just announce it.

Where are our allies? Where are the Saudis, the Turks, the Qataris? Maybe Erdogan can help now that he’s President and is done making war on women for the moment, Isn’t humanitarian rescue a UN function?

UN troops don’t fight. The Srebiniča massacre is an example.

It certainly isn’t our function. We typically pretend it’s humanitarian to disguise the corporate objectives. This may well be another case…look for more on the babies being ripped from incubators.

Meanwhile, the refugees in Detroit still have no water as far as I know. They just don’t get the press coverage, and no one’s bombing the state-appointed managers.

Just don’t bring them here or we’ll really never hear the end of all this immigrant and disease bullshit…

We are not sending troops to Iraq. It ain’t gonna happen.

Anyone see this. I don’t remember seeing it here at TPMZ

We can’t allow ISIS to murder 30,000 innocent civilians by gunfire or exposure. I’m with Obama on this one.

It’s OK because Obama isn’t “hawkish”, can’t be. Besides the troops will go in wearing sandals so we won’t have any boots on the ground.

Just because they’re in a combat situation doesn’t make them combat troops. Does it, “progressives”?
