Discussion: NYT: Kelly Shut Down EPA Plan To Hold Debates Over Climate Science

At least maybe there is one person in the Trump administration who does not want to defend the in-defensible.

There’s debate and then again there’s propaganda… Kelly may have enough political smarts to know the difference

If the morning’s other lead story is correct, Trump doesn’t need them anyway.

There are no red teams or blue teams to him. There is only his team (slowly shriveling to a team of one) and there is only his fact-free reality.

Any time you’re ready, Mr. Mueller …

Kelly is extremely conservative as well as not being a person you could respect that much, frankly. But he’s nearer the normal-person end of the normal–loon continuum in this administration, which makes him a net positive IMHO for all of us. He knew enough to see this would bring them all more disgrace, because he knows there’s no controversy. If he goes—hoo boy. Look out below.

Just an FYI:

TRUMP AND THE MILITARY ARE AT ODDS ON CLIMATE CHANGE

I think it is due to his military background.

The Pentagon, senior leaders, et al, are very interested in climate science, warming, etc. since they declared some years ago it has become a military point of concern. The media has reported same long before the Idiot became prez. In just one example, the melting North Pole ice sheet now has opened huge shipping lanes never seen before. Unfortunately, now the Navy must consider how to deploy assets to this formerly inaccessible area(to ships, not subs) to protect us from a surface sea-borne attack.

The rest of the world is rapidly developing solar power, battery storage technology, and EV’s.

The US is going back to coal, fossil fuels, and probably the steam engine if Trump, Pruitt, McConnell, and Ryan remain in power.

Thank goodness China has more economic muscle than the fascist led US. China is dumping coal and fossil fuels as it pushes to become #1 in solar power and EV’s. The US won’t even be in the top 10 thanks to a President who doesn’t read, relies on Fox for his information, and spends more time golfing than even pros on the PGA tour!

Makes sense to me. I have to think it would concentrate the mind, all that training. You have to use real numbers if you want to know how to aim a mortar. If you want to know what parts of the world might face unrest over the next 50 years and plan accordingly, you have to take climate change into effect. They have their own biases and directions in which they tend to err, I’m sure, but if there’s a scientific consensus about something they don’t have the option of waving it away.

Not this, not even the perfumes of Arabia, can absolve Kelly of his sins as a racist enabler of the most immoral, unethical, and ignorant President in the history of the USA.

That’s too bad. I was really looking forward to the warmup flat earth debate. You know, good arguments to be marshaled on both sides.

Even the tobacco companies weren’t stupid enough to propose a debate about its toxicity. I suspect Pruitt’s “debate” wouldn’t have gone over well had it actually occurred, because then, the press and public would have picked it apart.

Hey, I’m in favor. Have public, televised debates, with some sort of reasonable ground rules. Let the fossil team make fools of themselves.
Don’t leave out Zinke, who thinks that wind power is warming the earth.
This reminds me of someone I met who worried that mining the moon would disturb its orbit, if we took too much away.
Numeracy—it’s not just fortune telling with numbers!

An article in Mother Jones years ago included info about organizations preparing for climate change and the Defense Dept. was all in, as was Murdoch’s Empire.

PP is saddened about three “incredible” women being killed at a veterans home in Yountville. What their names are he couldn’t say.

36-year-old former Army rifleman Albert Wong killed two executives and a psychologist Friday at The Pathway Home, a nonprofit post-traumatic stress disorder program at the Veterans Home of California-Yountville in the Napa Valley wine region. He had slipped into a going-away party for some Pathway employees.
