“And the idea that Hope Hicks ever suggested that emails or other documents would be concealed or destroyed is completely false.”
Typical lawyer misdirection and non-denial denial. Corallo did not allege she said the e-mails would be concealed, nor destroyed. All that's being reported is Hick's comment to the President "they would not get out". Their remaining secret could be the result of many reasons, none related to concealmant or destruction. Let her lawyers address what it's alleged she said. Let's hear one deny she told Trump they'd never "get out".
This was exactly my first thought. Very careful and evasive phrasing.
No one is saying she “suggested” it to anyone, counselor.
She reported it. It had already been much more than suggested.
Nice try, though!
“That e-mail will never get out” is not in and of itself indicative of an obstructive intent. There’s got to be more to this than meets the eye. The interesting part is that Hicks’ lawyers are denying that she made this statement, rather than simply asserting that it was a (mistaken) prediction about what might happen in the ordinary scheme of things. The denial points to collateral matters that make the statement problematic.
More broadly, as Trump’s amanuensis and constant bystander, Hicks is extremely exposed to the risk of misleading the Feds. She is in very real danger, assuming the rule of law prevails.
Oh–and lock her up.
When it comes to believing Corallo or someone in Trump’s inner circle, I believe Corallo, meeting as he does the Literally Anyone Else standard.
She is so going to get flipped. And when she does, I am really looking forward to someone asking Sarah how that Hopey Changey thing is workin’ out for 'em.
“She never said that." Trout told the Times.
Ha, ha, ha, Trout thinks Corallo’s statement sounds fishy!
I wrote about this on another thread, but Hicks will get 1 chance to sign a guilty plea agreement or she will be indicted.
What will matter is what actions, if any, she has taken with regards to internal emails. This certainly doesn’t look good for her, and puts her in a potential adversarial relationship with Mueller, but the statement, by itself, is not a crime. Anything she did to carry out that statement has a very high potential to be a crime, however.
This is just a hint, however, as to why Hicks is a high target person for Mueller. She has seen or heard nearly EVERYTHING…and is essentially the keeper of record for all correspondence with Trump. She is also basically the only person with continuity throughout the entire campaign, transition, and administration, excluding people whose last name is Trump.
Hicks is going to be squeezed hard by Mueller. And having this statement out there just provides another pain point to pursue.
Hicks assured the President that emails from Trump Jr. to his acquaintance Rob Goldstone about a Russian lawyer nearly a year earlier “will never get out.”
Even if she did speak those four words in that sequence, one would need more than that to find Hicks guilty of obstruction. It’s possible she might have said something like, "Those messages? Who even knows where they are any more? I can’t even find them. They’ll never get out." In other words, she may have been predicting that they’d never be found and published, as opposed to threatening to destroy them.
I’m not saying her intended meaning was innocuous, not saying that by a long shot. Just noting that the four quoted words, taken out of context, don’t prove anything.
On the other hand, it may be that Corallo does remember the context — and, if so, that’s part of what Hicks and her attorney need to face.
She’ll be the quintessential pretty girl pulled over for speeding. Turn on the tears, bat your baby blues, a few apologies, mumble something about your dying mother and sick poodle. Officer lets you off with a warning and struggles mightily to refrain fom asking for your phone number.
She walks.
For Hope Hicks, it’s now or never to

Uh huh…you can’t remember what you had for breakfast but can CATEGORICALLY deny Hicks EVER said anything like this. Yep.
Like hell that’s how Mueller will treat her.
She’s going to be in for a rude shock if she tries games.
Someone told me she was sleeping with Lewandowski. I threw up a little in my mouth.
Hopefully Mueller has the phone conference on tape haha
Hope Hicks is absolutely innocent. Look at her. She’s a beautiful girl. How can you even think she’d do something like this?
that, and despite questionable judgement shown by joining the tRUmp team, he actually left when observing disturbing activities, so potentially possesses a conscience
Or at least a desire not to be caught up in a pattern of criminality. Don’t know much about him, but the spokespersons for legal teams, law offices and such I’ve ever dealt with are usually on the higher end sophistication-wise. He’s certainly doing what he needs to for self-protection and that makes you stand out in this crowd.
