Discussion: NYT: Andrew McCabe Could Be Fired Just Before His Official Retirement

You know where this is coming from - and it isn’t Sessions.

Have you, at long last, sir, no decency?

He would, though! He would.

Machiavelli was a results-oriented fellow. Act such that you will achieve your goals. What does firing McCabe achieve? It’ll save the US government, oh, I dunno, a million dollars or something. Trump obviously doesn’t give a fuck about deficits. That’s it. That’s all it achieves. He’s leaving THIS WEEK. Don’t slam the door on his ass just because it gives you a little stiffy.

According to The New York Times, the IG office has found that McCabe was not forthcoming during the review and the report findings ignited an FBI disciplinary process that recommended McCabe be fired.

Sessions right now

As a career civil servant, I’m guessing (on the basis of my own contract) that McCabe can only be fired with cause. Even then, there’s likely an appeal process and a means of seeking legal redress before he absolutely loses his pension.
That being said and without knowing the nature of the justifying allegations, going through all that is a tremendous pain in the ass. Thus, regardless of whether or not the Trumpsters can make the charge stick, if they go forward with this, they’re could cause McCabe a lot of pain through what is clearly a politically motivated or capricious firing.
While I don’t think the institution in which he served will turn a blind eye to McCabe’s firing, Triump has already so thoroughly poisoned that well that I don’t know how much difference his taking another whiz into it is going to make. We can, however, relish the possibility of leaks and its members’ testimony when next they are called to answer questions in a hearing related to some aspect of this White House’s practice (Wray’s words on the vetting of security clearances, doubtless, are shades of things to come.)

not mutually exclusive IMO. WAPO’s take:

This move does reek of Trump right down to someone else would have to do the actual firing. That said, I’m guessing that Trump might be satisfied with dragging McCabe’s reputation through the mud (or more likely that is what Sessions is trying to convince him of) because if Sessions thinks morale is low now at the FBI, see what happens when they start to screw around with pensions. Moreover, [ETA] this move can backfire bigly if Trump continues to try to present himself as someone who will help people who are not feeling economically secure - nothing says I couldn’t care less about economic security than cavalierly screwing with retirement benefits.

Retaliation? Anyone?

Did anyone else watch Bill Maher last Friday night and see Kathy Griffin and hear what they have done to her? It’s incredible. They put her on the no fly list so that she is taken into custody in some airports, the FBI interviewed her more than once for hours…it goes on and on - just because she pushed the envelope of her first amendment rights with a tasteless joke.

Trump gets revenge any way he can and that’s what taking this man’s pension is = retaliation by the President.

It is sickening.

This is just petty beyond words. From what I know about McCabe he was heavily involved in pushing the Hillary investigation and for that I really detest him. But no one deserves this. He did his job, and to fire him the week before he would be eligible to get his pension is really really low. It’s disgusting and pathetic.

And that’s before we realize the chilling effect it will have on other public servants who would realize their livelihoods depend on pleasing the man baby who is somehow President.

And now, some sad news from exactly one year ago:

ETA: I should’ve pointed out this is likely a fake account.

A solid majority of the Russublican politicians and their voters are just simply petty mother fuckers. Not worthy of the greatness of America, these mean, low-performance thinkers drag our country and the world down. I’m all for full vilification of all things conservative until they shape up or leave the US.

According to people inside the Justice Department who spoke to The New York Times, McCabe is expected to be fired before the end of the work week, though no official decision has been made yet.

Wow, that’s colder than being escorted out of the White House without a jacket.

I truly cannot think of a more effective way than this to enrage every career Law Enforcement and Intelligence Service employee.

Please proceed Mr. Trump; I guarantee the results will be breathtaking in their scope.

This is a much more consequential matter than an attack on one person. If McCabe is fired, it means that there exists a cadre in the IG office and the FBI (including Sessions) that is prepared to vindictively destroy the career and pension of any agent for political reasons. This will (1) have a chilling effect on some FBI agents’ resolve to go after Republican criminality; (2) lay the ground for a purge of any agent perceived to be disloyal (to the GOP, not the constitution); and (3) signal the clear politicization of the FBI, which is a truly frightening prospect.

My guess is that Sessions does not fire him, however.

Face it, they are trying to place fear in others by doing this. Not just evil, but cheap and tawdry. I would suggest strongly that if the Democrats wrest back power, they look into this sort of abuse and ensure that justice is done correctly.
