Discussion for article #232668
Sooo . . . a SWAT team with a better tree fort?
with the long rifles and machine guns — unfortunately sometimes necessary in these instances,” Bratton added.
what the fuck is he talking about – and he referenced the recent protests. so… bratton sounds like he’d approve use of machine guns at routine demonstrations. there was no rampaging, with storefronts being broken; pedestrians being attacked; this is a big escalation in personal weaponry. the nypd already has its own tanks. ray kelly used to brag how he had his own military force – waterways/airways/ground all have their own divisions.
IF they keep the gear locked in a compartment in the vehicle, IF they remember NOT to leave the door open and keys in ignition of such vehicle - it’s not a half bad idea
The force will be “designed for dealing with events like our recent protests,
WHAT THE F*Ck???!!!
Peaceful protests, act of terror, another act of terror… One of these things is not like the other?
I mean…its not like they would ever abuse their authority with even more fire power now, would they?
Nah, that would never happen.
“unfortunately sometimes necessary in these instances”
Granted, I’ve only been on this planet 38 years, but I have yet to ever see…EVER…anything whatsoever occurring in this country that required police to engage in spraying machine gun fire at anything or anyone. Not a damn thing.
“Yeah, but just think of how much money we’ll save on having to train them to shoot straight…”
Its all one big slippery slope now…
Seems like this is how NYPD manages to get around the Posse Comitatus Act. Just become your own fucking military force with the blessings of the Feds and Voila! You have essentially the same thing in the community, if not on paper.
Holeee crap.
Just waiting to have this scenario made into another 1930’s Chicago gangster movie.
This time, the cops are the gangsters.
Next, on Fox: SNDU New York - ride along for a thrill packed 42 minutes of the next hour with New York City Police Department’s Strategic Nukes Deployment Unit.
The force will be “designed for dealing with events like our recent protests,
Wall Street or the ones protesting the murder of Eric Garner or both.
Absolutely unacceptable, even as a warning, because the police are out of control in a few big cities across the country,
BTW, I’m certainly far less concerned about adults in major cities worrying about their “safety” than the sadness and anger that I feel about little children gunned down by a little rich kid in Connecticut.
Priorities, people. More guns are hardly the solution.
SNDU? I don’t know what that is. All I could find was, Sanitary Napkin Disposal Unit.
I doubt that’s what you meant. Sorry.
Help me out here.
Well, except that machine guns would have not accomplished jack-shit at any of the “examples” - then it is just another excuse to kill people for peaceful demonstrations. Or are his embedded cops going to carry the machine guns while in the crowd?
These guys are going to get what?? These guys send rounds at human targets with impunity and cant even hit an innocent man with more than 50% of their shots? Where is the NRA’s outrage.
"The Shooting of Amadou Diallo occurred on February 4, 1999, when Amadou Diallo, a 23-year-old immigrant from Guinea, was shot and killed by four New York City Police Department plain-clothed officers: Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss, who fired a combined total of 41 shots, 19 of which struck Diallo, outside his apartment at 1157 Wheeler Avenue in the Soundview section of The Bronx.
The recent killings of two cops sitting in their patrol car has shook up everybody in NY, but unfortunately it’s the PD alone who will vent their anger at it by targeting even more young black men than ever before.
You do not need it until you need it. This is the largest city in the country, where there is a lot of potential to raise a lot of hell in ways we do not expect, for those of you with short memories, If New Yorkers, where all races and creeds and genders are embedded in the power system, do not like it, they can vote out the officials who are tolerating it.
Why not surface-to-air missiles and submarines on the East River?
I believe the SNDU he was referring to was right in his post:
