Discussion: NYPD Arrests Teen For Facebook Threats Against Cops In Photos, Emojis

Discussion for article #232418

If a Facebook post frightens NYC cops, they need to find a new job because they are too cowardly to be cops.

Aristy had 12 prior arrests, including for robbery, assault, possession of marijuana, and criminal possession of a weapon by the age of 17.

Arrests. Convictions? Unknown.

He was not arrested this time for those prior incidents. He was arrested this time for posting emojis.

I don’t even know what that facebook post says. Is it threatening? It looks like he feel asleep on the keyboard.

I have a feeling that possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a weapon will be making their way into this arrest as well.

You don’t understand. We must arrest, and if they aren’t sufficiently compliant when being arrested, shoot people preemptively for being bad, bad people who did bad things in the past and thus might do something bad to a cop in the future. It’s the only way to Keep Cops Safe™.

The emoji’s are a red herring. He also posted pictures of himself sporting a firearm. If they can find a way to keep this kid from turning 21 in prison I think it’s worth the effort. How do you reach a kid like that?

Best as I can decipher:

“With my fucking brother, trampling loud beans, bitch. Hats up! You know how we coming.”

I’ll be holding services to mourn the murder of the English language next Thursday.

Choke hold? Pump between five and forty bullets into him? Have the cops come to his neighborhood and harass him every time they see him, at least once a day? Our modern militarized police have a number of innovative solutions to these problems if only the bleeding hearts and race baiters will get out of their way and let them do their jobs.

They arrested him because they feared for their safety. When will they start arresting men whose social media postings make WOMEN fear for their safety? The excuse I’ve heard is that “I will rape & murder you” is a threat, but describing in detail how she ought to be raped & murdered isn’t, no matter how frightening that language is.

And if making threatening statements & posting pictures of yourself with a weapon is grounds for arrest, why don’t they arrest white pro-gun people who do that? Plenty of them post threats that are much easier to understand that the mystifying FB post in the article.

It’s hard to judge from the information in this article. Maybe he’s just misunderstood.

Emojis, SMDH, indecipherable post by a punk kid…??
I’m in over my head. I am not up on what an emoji is…I thought they were called emoticons or some such. Also I know I can look up “SMDH” and get “shaking my head”. 140 characters at a time is damaging the English language I think.
Seriously now, are the police threatened by speech?

Why is the New York City PD “routinely” monitoring Facebook? Or was it watching the kid because he is/was on probation from prior arrests? What is going on here?

Violation of someone’s First Amendment right or Probation Officer not getting the memo to put threating kooks in jail?

I don’t really know, more information is needed.

This article doesn’t say what he was actually charged with. I had to go to a news site for that.

That would require cops and a “Justice” System actually concerned with reaching him as opposed to the system we have, which is just interested in more bodies to feed into our for-profit prisons.

INAL (I’m Not A Lawyer) but I think there’s a chance he could beat the wrap if it were just the messages but I’m not sure about the pictures. If it were just the messages then the possession charges might be considered fruit of the poison tree. I don’t think the police are as afraid of that emoji as they are that .38 Smith & Wesson.

Didn’t know posting threatening facebook posts were illegal. Luckily they have the gun and the pot to charge him with something, right?
… to fear for their safety, for public safety, …
These cops sure are scared. I hear there’s treatment facilities that can (and will, thanks to Obamacare!) help. These cops certainly shouldn’t be allowed out in public, and should NEVER be armed - since they’re so afraid.

Shhh - don’t tell them their shadows are black. We’d end up with thousands of bullet holes in sidewalks.

Is a picture posted on Facebook not speech? I’m not a lawyer either but I thought we had a right to express what ever idiocy that comes to mind without fear from the big bad gummint. Yes I think the post was stupid but is not stupidity in an expression also protected under the 1st amendment BECAUSE it’s an expression?
