Discussion for article #230777

Anybody surprised?

A grand jury is a prosecutor’s plaything. It will indict a fucking ham sandwich for killing Jimmy Hoffa if that’s what the prosecutor wants. When a grand jury no-bills, it’s because that’s what the D.A. wanted.

Once again: how to get away with murder in America. Step 1: become a police officer. There are no other steps.

More so in NY than in Ferguson.

Great message these grand juries are sending.

You left out “make sure your victim is black.”

True. That’s the most important part. But they can get away with murdering non brown people too.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!!

And what is the name of the fucking prosecutor in this case? Who is Staten Island’s Robert McCullough clone? Care to include the name of the asshole in charge of this fiasco in this article? I need to know where to direct my anger because as far as I can tell, he/she didn’t even try to get this to trial as a homicide…which is what this grand jury should have been tasked to do. How hard was it? THERE WAS FUCKING VIDEOTAPE! What a farce our judicial system has become.

Sometimes, yes… but it’s harder to pull off.

Not at all surprising.

This is way worse than MB to me and a better subject to use as a basis of the recent race discussions. The problem is by using MB that stole something (regardless of the dollar value) is that those with predispositions to blame minorities or think negatively about them will fall back to the crime and shut off any additional discussion on the topic.

There are just such better examples out there to rally around if you want to switch the views of those who people be attempting to reach.

Can you immagine how many fewer people would be in jail if everybody enjoyed the same burden of proof that police have? I’m a big fan of not punishing innocent people.

Given there’s no perfect system to separate innocence and guilt, I’ll almost always lean towards freeing a someone who might be guilty over punishins someone who’s innocent. I do believe that the police enjoy this to an extreme, and that lots of people are not given this benefit very much if at all. Those views are obviously subjective and debatable. What seems to be undeniable is that police enjoy it way more than everybody else.

Not to mention that Staten Island is very conservative and non diverse community.

Maybe a teeny bit harder…but it happens every day:

Staten Island…home of Representative and soon-to-be-felon Michael Grimes.
Thankfully, they got that asshole on a 20 count indictment for fraud, federal tax evasion and perjury because the Feds were on the case, not the local prosecutor.

Eric Gardner’s offense? Selling cigs one at a time…a misdemeanor at best. And for this, the cops were allowed to kill him with impunity.

The best subject IMO is actually Tamir Rice. I don’t see how they can try to find those cops innocent but I’m sure they’ll try. Filthy immoral POS bigots.

Will they release the transcripts? I really would like to know.

As people can see from my handle, I live in NYC. I’m also Black.
I wasn’t surprised by this seeing as Staten island has to be one of the most racist sh*tholes on the East Coast. Put it alongside Mississippi and you could hardly tell the difference. My $0.2 on this:

For those people saying that “the system” is corrupt, I absolutely agree. HOWEVER, the other component on this is that 1.) the police have now become enemies of the people they are supposedly sworn to serve and 2.) too many (not all) White people agree with any cop’s actions. Doesn’t matter how racist and vicious it is, the cop was right and the ni**er was wrong. The end.

The cop used an illegal chokehold, ON CAMERA, and still managed to walk. Why? Because ALL he had to do was say that his life was in danger. From a violent Black man. And when that happens, the life of any Black person is immediately disqualified from further consideration. Body cameras won’t stop police murder when a cop’s life trumps that of “one of those people.”

What I find slightly interesting (if that’s really the word I’m looking for) is that this is coming right on the heels of Ferguson and other horror stories. Right now, Black people are living in some pre 20th century America where the hood has been lifted and we’re being shown that time has stood still for us.
