Discussion: NYC Board Of Elections To Be Audited After Reports Of Voting 'Irregularities'

We really need a national voting standard, and a strong enforcement process, to stop things like this from happening nationwide. There should be a national voter database, and the database would include information that would let you vote in any precinct or online; early voting would be included in the system. Everyone would get a voter ID card (which would shut up the idiots complaining about in person fraud), and major security would be in place to detect tampering. Your vote itself would not be recorded, just the fact that you had voted (which is already the way it works). States could build upon the standard to set up specific rules, but the basics would guarantee that everyone got to vote securely and without interference.

This is a system that could be implemented now, but it’s blocked because one party benefits from people not voting. What they seem to forget in their eagerness to win elections is that they are acting against the principles the nation is founded on.

We had a system in place that worked better before the Roberts’ court tipped the scales.

People keep complaining about issues that could be somewhat or actually rectified with a SCOTUS that adhered to the laws as written.

It’s the SCOTUS, stupid. (not you)

On a couple of other side notes for this evening, I found this article rather interesting:

Sounds like he is feeling more burned than feeling the Bern these days.

And this exit polling question of NY:

NY Dems: If XXX is nominee..

Clinton
Definitely vote for: 65%
Probably vote for: 20
Won't vote for: 13

Sanders
Def: 59%
Prob: 21
Won't: 18

And we are off to the races.

Hillary was taking shots at passing Sanders voters from the grassy knoll, just like Vince Foster.

The Rethugs honestly don’t give a sh*t.

Rank and file Dems don’t seem to be particularly alarmed (aside from the political junkies such as ourselves) hence nothing gets done.

As long as republicans keep wearing those flag lapels…

Pathetic.

Well I am an advocate for, and will continue to be one, for our voting system here in Oregon.

Vote-by-mail. Automatic voter registration, closed primaries, can change your party registration right up to 3 weeks before the election (that deadline is so the ballot data can get validated, ballots printed, mailed to you and so in turn giving you 2 weeks to read the ballots measures, assess the candidates, and get the ballot back either by mail or a ballot drop-off location when it best works for your schedule).

The only change I would make is ballot return envelopes should be postage free.

And sadly when Bernie loses NY all we will hear tomorrow is how Hillary rigged the election.

Well, that’s a complete deal breaker. Damn Oregon out there suppressing voters at every diabolical turn. Clearly its a corrupt system set up for the establishment cronies.

I don’t think they’re forgetting anything. They have voter suppression in mind at all times. Principles of a nation? Meh. Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.

@chelsea530

According to Brennan Center 17 states will be free of the burden imposed on them by the Voting Rights Act in this year’s presidential election.

Same here in Washington. At least there are drop boxes in front of the county offices and library where you can drop your ballot without postage. There is no having to show up to vote during certain hours and no poll workers that need to be paid. I would go farther and add that if you get a drivers license or state ID card you should be automatically registered to vote if you qualify.

@lestatdelc

Oh sure. Next thing you will be telling us that people can legally smoke marijuana in your states, too.

I follow benchmark politics (they are doing an excellent job, highly recommended) and now have started a live post for today’s results. More exit poll data (inc what you posted) is posted there.

Yeah, same here. Just that some elderly people and working stiffs don’t necessarily have a vehicle to go hit a drop-off location. Likewise I don’t think elderly people on a fixed income should be having to drop any money to get their ballot in.

We in the Multnomah Democratic party do ballot pick-up runs on election day to nursing homes, group-care homes, etc. as well as car-rides to the local county election office location for in-person voting for those who lost their ballots or missed the mail-in deadline, and/or don;t feel conformable hand their ballot to someone.

But of course the point is, we should be making it as painless as possible for citizens to vote.

Hey. I’m just pleased we have the highest per capita of book stores, micro brews, lesbians, and strip-clubs of any major metropolitan area.

While I personally don’t imbibe is herb, keeping “Portland Weird” and letting people fire one up is icing on the cake to me.

Of course that it could and should turn into a THC version of the microbrew industry and hopefully help revitalize the rural counties by encouraging growers of pot.

There are estimates it was already what was indirectly keeping rural southern counties afloat (before legalization). And once we finally got the slugs in Salem to get their shit together on taxing, brought in over $3 million in tax revenues the for month.

Just so you aren’t talking about actually using marijuana in making beer…ala like a hops. Very bad idea as THC is highly alcohol soluble. Same reason its really stupid to smoke through any alcohol in a bong.

HBD from me and HRC. I can’t give you a birthday present because I don’t know who you are, but consider this article a little gift from me.

I live in WA also. One negative for WA’s system is that you can mail your ballot on election day. I believe in OR your ballot has to be received by election day. Drop boxes help those who wait until the last minute. I live in a remote, small community and we do not have any drop boxes. I like being able to vote from home, although I miss my “I Voted” sticker. If WA can get rid of the caucus and move to a primary I’d like it even more.
