Discussion: NY SG Tells SCOTUS To Deny DOJ's 'Extraordinary' Request In Census Case

To be fair, if it wasn’t going to be used for law enforcement purposes, it would be a really good data point for researchers to have. Could be very useful in all manner of things, like directing where more public assistance might be required, studies of the impact of immigration on resourcing of public schools, etc.

It’s a pity that it’s specifically being engaged as a weapon

Except in the “right” neighborhoods, of course, or people with the “right” names.

If might be useful, for good or ill, but it is not needed. If it might be useful, it can wait until 2030.

Well, naturally. Need to pinpoint it, for those whom they can remotely validate as citizens, no need to waste the effort (although, to be thorough, really should go door-to-door, don’t know who might be hiding Jews immigrants).

I understand that it has been obvious for decades that too many Republicans have no problem with cheating to win, but they’ve been caught. And, they don’t care that it is obvious. Am I reading this wrong?

My guess is that they would prefer that it not be so obvious, but as long as it keeps working and they get away with it, they really don’t much care.

Oh, not saying at all that it should be in there. As a former analyst, though, I can almost taste how good that extra data point in the set would be for all sorts of analysis.

Really is a pity that political reality means that it’s likely never going to be an acceptable piece of data to get ahold of.

It makes my head hurt to try and sort out how complicated this has gotten. I admire anyone that can write about this so it makes some sense. Glad it’s not my job.

This should help…

Thanks. I thought it was just me. Your head hurts; mine spins.

How much did that brilliant and incisive poster cost, I wonder? It’s SO helpful. He is the definition of dipshit. I’m responding to Scotty above; forgot to hit “Reply”.

I’d say SCOTUS has issef a dandy li’l lighting rod right there. Wonder what they’ll be chatting about over tea and biscuits tomorrow.

Probably more than you or I will ever have…

At this point the Trump administration has achieved its goal. Between its threats of deportation of “millions” and the concentration camps it has set up on the border, anyone who is undocumented or has an undocumented friend or relative living with them will decide as a matter of self-preservation to go deep underground and not to respond to any governmental inquiry.

So, the undercount will occur. The only benefit of leaving the citizenship question off would be to preclude the states from districting based on voting age citizen population rather than full population.

The right wing Republican Catholic Supreme Court is rapidly tearing apart the US Judicial system by overthrowing settled law!

The Supreme has lost credibility with 60% of Americans!

The Roberts court is an American travesty…made by Trump and Bush the two worst Presidents in modern history.

Gorsuch should resign from the court and Merit Garland inserted. Garland is the legitimate judge.

Actually, they’re not in a bind at all. Or, to put it another way, they’re only in a bind if they have corrupt intent…which everyone has pretty well presumed.

That’s why their approval ratings are at record lows and many Americans no longer consider them as impartial arbiters of the law.

Hey, I don’t. Not Walker’s fault that everyone’s misinterpreted what a Venn Diagram should be for years, including John Venn.
