Discussion for article #227055
The more these incidents are highlighted, more people as a whole will rise up and demand police diversity training…because just as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., eloquently stated,
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”…
Umm, I think maybe you guys cut a paragraph or two too many from the wire copy between those last two paragraphs.
This makes no sense as it stands. The man might very well have died from the combination of PCP and heart disease without the restraint. Perhaps he might have been so agitated because he was having a heart attack and unable to communicate what was wrong before the restraint. It would not have been safe to transport him without restraint and it would not have been safe to leave him where he was. As the article stands, it sounds like the emergency workers all did the right thing. So there must have been something critical that is not in this account for the death to have been ruled a homicide.
This is a more complete report in the NY Daily News, but still doesn’t explain why this death could be considered a homicide - unless the protective wrap was improperly applied and killed him. Clearly the ambulance workers removed it when the man had a cardiac arrest. It also doesn’t sound like a police-related death, but a paramedic-related death.
Are you kidding me? Do you seriously think ‘diversity training’ will solve this problem? I hope you are being sarcastic.
