…and the heads of the baggers go “POP” “POP” “POP”
Oh dear. The heads of everyone at Breitbart and Daily Caller just went poof!
The NY Daily News? The one that just fired a bunch of their writers because they’re losing millions of dollars?
“justice writer”?
Shouldn’t ALL journalists be “justice writers”?
Lots of newspapers are losing millions of dollars.
this guy should be a lot cheaper than vet sports guys like Bill Madden etc.
good for them – used to have some good columnists back in the day but not lately
A very timely post. And one overlooked by most, in this hellacious Fourth Estate Predicament we are surely in.
What I’d like to see is stories about people stuck in jail for minor (even traffic) offenses who can’t get out… before they die there. Who knows how many poor people who can’t pay a fine or hire a lawyer are suffering this fate… and we never hear until someone dies. I’d really like local newspapers to start paying attention to this. That would make a measurable difference in so many lives.
And what a good job for a “justice writer!”
Couldn’t happen to a better writer. Good Luck Shaun King. I read his articles at Daily Kos all the time and he is thorough in exposing the double standard, institutional racism and bias, he asks the right questions, and has a keen sense of injustice particularly as it relates to racial inequity. I’ve been horrified and saddened at some of his accounts of deaths and frankly just cruel treatment of black people at the hands of the police and prison guards. Most of those situations I would never have known about because no one else was writing about them to the extent that he does. I hope he’s exposed to a wider audience with this new job. His work deserves serious attention.
As a New Yorker I grew up reading it. The columnists back then Pete Hamill, Breslin and Jack Newfield, after his 30 odd year stint at the Voice effused a sense of justice. Hopefully Mr. King will follow their path.
