Yup, his quest to end frivolous lawsuits has taken some odd turns.

Poor Devin and his thin skin. Isn’t it amazing how Nunes and his ilk are all about “free speech” when they’re the ones doing the criticizing. When they are the targets they suddenly hate it. Strange that…

Strong anti-SLAPP provisions are a good start, but they don’t seem to be the complete answer. Here, we have a flagrantly silly, laugh-out-of-court suit specifically intended to weaponize the legal system to restrict our most basic fundamental freedoms exercised for politics, presumably bankrolled by some rich fuck who doesn’t care about mere fees. It’s hard to think of something more at odds with the spirit of our freedoms as the framers conceived them.

I’m not sure what the answer is, but we need to think about an answer. Sending Devin (DEVIN!) to scoop cow patties one day for every million dollars of silly nuisance lawsuit might be a good solution for this specific case, but it’s not very generalizable.

Wonder who is footing the legal bills for Nunes? There is something not quite right about this whole affair. One would hope he would lose and then have to pay ALL of the legal bills for the defendents. Now that would be justice!

Interesting that the case was filed in Virginia and not California. What are you afraid of, Devin?

Not generalizable but let’s not have the perfect be the enemy of the good. If Devin learns a valuable lesson in sitting his guilty ass down and shutting his guilty mouth up, that’s a good outcome. :cow:

I have to hand it to Devin. He really knows how to keep all the wonderful stories about him in the news.

Poor Devin must be short of cash to pay alla them lawyer fees.

My question exactly - smells like conservative think tanks or a billionaire out to further destroy legitimate news organizations. As silly as Nunes is, these tactics are really scary.

Anybody seen Peter Thiel lately?

This bears repeating:

Goldman’s hypothesis is that Nunes’ intended audience is his die-hard supporters and his donors. In the midterms, Nunes defeated Democratic challenger Andrew Janz, but only out-raised him by $3 million. For the eight-term incumbent in a solidly Republican district, Janz’ challenge was the toughest in years.

His campaign committee.

You’re close.

This is the republican party starting to work the refs, IE: media, in anticipation of a remarkably dishonest 2020 campaign.

It was just a first attempt. It’s early where I am and the caffeine hasn’t fully kicked in.

I think Nunes is serious about going after lies, defamation, collusion and fake journalism. After all, he bravely went on Hannity, the nerve center of so much of it.

He’s not thin-skinned. Someone is paying him to do this, as part of a harassment campaign against a free press. Let’s hope a judge throws out the case, with prejudice, and forces him to pay the others’ legal expenses. This is a serious threat to free speech and that lying scumbag in the White House is 100% behind it. Not a laughing matter.

At what point does a Federal Judge decide that this has crossed over into “Malicious Prosecution” and sanction Nunes?
