Discussion: Numerous Outlets Duped By Fake News Story On NBA And NC Anti-Gay Law

The NBA would like to make it emphatically clear they donā€™t know what their position is on LGBT discrimination.

The NBA also suggested they break all the windows on the ground floor of the state house.

I donā€™t think thatā€™s necessarily fair. First, this story is more about the MSMā€™s incompetence and the industry standard of unjournalism than it is about the NBAā€™s position, which IIRC it actually has made clear is against the NC law. Second, given the amount of money and the contractual obligations likely involved int he All-Star game, making the withdrawal thereof from NC a prerequisite for considering the NBA to have responded adequately is a little unfair. Sure, ask for or demand it, but shit has to stay within reason. Are we to expect all businesses to just up and leave the state?

Iā€™m sure Bruce Springsteen broke various contractual obligations when he canceled his Greensboro, NC concert on short notice. Nevertheless he sucked it up and told NC to piss off. Everything south of the Mason-Dixon should be shunned into the stone age as far as I can see. There are 35+ other states that could use the jobs. China doesnā€™t give a damn if their imports come from Pennsylvania or Tennessee.

Now that is some grade A trolling of the MSM

The MSM is a cowardly, lazy, and Incestuous lot where it is much more important to be FIRST than to be correct.

So. NBA? Mr Silver?
Step up to the freethrow line and sink a freebie.
Make this story non-fake.
Sooner is better!

They have made it clear multiple times actually. They just havenā€™t commented on the All-Star Game yet. Silver seems to like to think things out before making decisions.

I came across it early, and posted a link to itā€¦and thankfully, lestadelc stopped me and pointed out the weird url before I compounded my error!

I wanted it to be true so badly, I wuzā€™ bamboozled! arghhhhh! (ā•„ļø£ļ¹į·…ā•„) and (惎ą² ē›Šą² )惎 [flips a table] ~snicker!~

The point is simply that we donā€™t know. It may very well have been easier or harder for The Boss. He made his own choices. I just think itā€™s unfair to laud them one day for speaking out against it and then the next day, after someone posts a fake article about them pulling the game from NC, to criticize them for not doing so and treat them like theyā€™re part of the problem. We canā€™t expect all business interests to just up and lose millions of dollars to make a point.

I say this and I donā€™t even watching like basketballā€¦thereā€™s no hitting!

This is for next yearā€™s All-Star game, correct? Therefore, I doubt there are too many contracts yet in force that couldnā€™t be abrogated some 10 months before the game is set to happen.

Thatā€™s why we have hockey and Trump campaign rallies.

Itā€™s too much to expect but it would be great if the players notified Silver ā€œHave your game in Charlotte, but good luck finding any players thatā€™ll show up, weā€™ll be off fishing.ā€

Rick Mahorn would agree with you.
Cuzā€™ itā€™s not the '90s anymore!

Social engineering for societal benefit as little as it may initially seem it accomplished the Herculean task of getting the perpetually SQUIRREL!! media that closely follows a big story until the next big SQUIRREL!! story comes along, which is usually a few days or even a few hours. Kudos for reminding the world that the NC legislature that passed this are a bunch of hateful cowards who signed this bill in the dead of night because theyā€™re werenā€™t brave enough to face the peopleā€™s opinions about it. The Founding Fathers would be so proud of their cowardice in the face of their delusions of tyranny.

Umm yeah I have to agree with Stevie here. After all, they took the risk of taking their business to a state that has a 400 year history of human rights oppression, only a few-decade track record of reversing that course, and plenty of ominous warnings from NC voters and the reactionaries like McCrory theyā€™ve elected since 2010 that they are hell bent on a backslide to 1950 if not 1850 ā€œvaluesā€.

So caveat emptor, NBA and anyone else who bet ill-advisedly on NC in the last half decade. You should have seen this coming. Pay the price and move on to one of the plenty of locations in the US without government-sponsored bigotry, if you care to maintain your dignity as an American institution.

BTW, Sniffit, I read your comments all the time though I post pretty rarely, because usually you irreverently spot-on. This one seems out of character. If youā€™ve been kidnapped by Der Donald and are being held against you will with Chris Christie in the dungeon of the Trump Taj Mahal, give the secret sign and we will mobilize a rescue party.
