Discussion: NRA: Obama's Executive Actions Are Part Of An Incoherent Strategy

Discussion for article #244318

I know when I crave coherence, the place I turn is the gun lobby. Mmmm, mmm, good!

From the looks of their response, it sounds like the NRA got caught flatfooted, and didn’t expect such an emotional speech and one that many believe will resonate with American people. The last thing they could’ve imagined is the president defending the 2nd Amendment. They didn’t expect such an impassioned plea to do the right thing, nor did they expect such measured proposals. The only thing incoherent is the NRAs response.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the NRA is a “quasi-militant wing of the Republican Party”

In fact, the NRA is the terrorist wing of the Republican Party.

and SNACKS!!

Since San Bernardino, I have often wondered what it is about Muslims that make their bullets scarier, more debilitating, and more deadly than those coming from the barrel of a gun held by a Christian American male. Over ten times as many Americans die each year from guns than those that perished on 9/11, and yet the American people are afraid of Muslim terrorists shooting them? This is a special kind of stupid.

“The proposed executive actions are ripe for abuse by the Obama Administration, which has made no secret of its contempt for the Second Amendment. The NRA will continue to fight to protect the fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms as guaranteed under our Constitution,”

Well duh, with 300 million living targets out there placing constraints on access to guns is kinda stupid.

Trump: All muslims are terrorists.
NRA: They can all buy guns.
ISIS: God bless America.

In the U.S.that “constitutionally-protected activity” in 2013 cost 33,636 lives while acts of terrorism cost 21 lives. Since 2001, guns have killed 406,496 people in this country; acts of terrorism killed 3,380. 88% or so of these as a result of 9/11. (source: CDC, U.S. State Dept) The issue here is not just terrorism. It is not just crime. The exercise of 2nd Amendment rights must be tempered with responsibility – “well-regulated” as the Constitution acknowledges. The level of carnage in the U.S. resulting from guns should be unacceptable to everyone, even the NRA.

But I guess gun profits take precedence over human life.

“nor will we allow them to become scapegoats for President Obama’s failed policies.”

WTF? What do these mild executive orders have to do with any “failed policies?”

Why doesn’t the NRA, or its defenders, come out and just say it “We think the current level of gun violence is an acceptable cost to protect our Second Amendment Rights.”

There have been more deaths by right-wing terrorists in America than by jihadists since 9/11. Forty eight versus 45. Yes, that total includes San Bernardino Link:

Added: In 2015, police killed 1,200 people. That’s more than 99 per month. Twice as many in a month shot by police than the total killed by jihadists in over 14 years. Link: http://killedbypolice.net/

“We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be harassed or intimidated.”

Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? If the law enforcement arm of the government says you can’t regularly sell guns without doing a background check, and you do it anyway, then you are not law-abiding. You’re a criminal. With guns. And a good guy with a gun should stop you.

Fools. This action hardly does anything but it’s ‘ripe for abuse’. C’mon MEDIA…show them up!

How about a law that says if your gun–no matter who has it–causes any unintended harm, you go to jail? Bear your fucking arms, but bear the responsibility as well.
