Charlatan and fraud. Cheat and retreat.
Excuse me, but when referring to folks like Cruz “Christian” needs to be in quotes, signifying sarcasm or cynicism. Someone who hates the poor, hates the gay, hates the non-Cuban immigrant, and who would deny pain-easing care to the sick is no Christian. Ted Cruz is “Christian” in the same way Adolf was a good man because he was a vegan.
Truly religious people don’t need to make a show out of their faith. They live a religious life of good works which speaks for itself.
Actually, hate and fear are central tenets of christian doctrine. The god of the bible is vengeful, capricious, jealous, petulant, genocidal and misogynistic. The core texts of christian doctrine are rife with stone age atrocities and brutality. The fact that once in a while phrases like “love your neighbor” pop up is hardly enough to counterbalance the rest of the horrors found in the book professed to be the word of god. Cruz is actually very much acting like a christian; he’s fearful, angry, willing to condemn others for their actions/beliefs and otherwise a mean-spirited, arrogant jerk. Sounds about right.
Cruz responded that he’d “worked and saved to build a solid financial foundation to provide for my children.” He has two daughters.
The brass of this self-aggrandizing skinflint! P.S. Perhaps it is a lttle too late for him to pull a W, and start remonsrating about how he never did give enough (or anything), but around the time he began his doomed campaign, the Lord came down and SAVED his lost lamb Rafael Cruz!
Ted Cruz’s Christian posturing will ultimately have the same effect as every other single thing he’s ever done. It will make people hate his guts.
Well the idea that a 10% ACH withdrawal to the church equals giving it to “God,” is deeply popular with pastors. For Carnival Cruz to find that just a little too convenient, woukd make him a little closer to a normal person, if he weren’t trying so hard to impress the pastors.
Evangelists seem almost desperate to me a times. It’s sad the way they fawn over even the most obvious phonies, anyone who will invoke their name,or cause. Only to be ignored when they are no longer useful.
Unless you follow the teachings of Jesus-- which includes a whole bunch of things regarding what would be considered “welfare” today-- you are NOT Christian.
Negative. Christianity is New Testament, not Old Testament.
Not to go off subject, but no one has ever said Hitler was vegan. Some have claimed he was vegetarian, but that has also been disproven.
In this case, like in so many others, when the evangelists get to know Cruz, they just don’t like him. Hell, Liberty where he launched didn’t endorse him, went to the guy that didn’t pander in the same way, Trump said he’d protect them (from the mythical attacks on their faith) he didn’t pretend to be them.
I think everyone paying attention to Cruz knows he looks down on them.
This raises a question I’ve been asking for a while. Does Trump tithe? The church he claims to belong to says he’s not a member. 10% of $9 billion is $900 million.
Cruz has said he and his wife were more focused on using their seven-figure annual income to build a financial foundation for their family.
Translation: “It’s mine, I’m keeping it, fuck the rest of you.”
So, Christian churches reject the OT? Really? Even Christ fully embraced the OT, lock, stock, and barrel.
This is cherry-picking taken to a entirely new level.
Lots of taxpayer dollars and no need to actually work. Reagan had a term for that…
They are reliable voters. They are highly engaged politically. They are numerous in states the GOP needs. Their beliefs almost necessitate the Talking Points spewed out by BaggerPols.
How I wish that working single women, African Americans, Latinos, Millennials and other groups the Democrats need “came out to vote” (I do not like that phrase, which sounds like making the decision to go to the Junior Prom) to the degree Evangelicals do.
So many people rag on the Democratic politicians for “failing to inspire”…for being “the establishment types”…for there “being no difference between the parties”.
The fact of the matter is that most Democrats dutifully mention things like infrastructure, Climate Change, jobs, student debt, outsourcing…and the fact of the matter is that these above groups that the Democrats need consistently underperform. A case can be made that there are reasons for this underperformance. The Millennials have never even been exposed to a real Fourth Estate (Todd versus Cronkite? give me a break). African Americans are locked-up in prison in alarmingly numerous cases and thus denied voting rights. Single women, especially those with children, labour in underpaid jobs. What so many Anglos ignore is that fear of “La Migra” dampens a great deal of enthusiasm for Latinos at the polls.
My reaction to this unfairness?
Tough shit. My parents and grandparents were called more racial insults in one week than most youngsters today in one year. There were NO programs for my grandparents and only a few more for my parents. Mexican women of the 1950s?..would anyone want me to go there? Women? In the 1950s there was little or no “no-fault” divorce. I am in the midst of reading a 1950s novel in which all women are either secretaries or housewives. I have an African American buddy who told me that, when driving across Mississippi in 1961, his Dad DID NOT STOP AT ALL…
I believe that the Democrats will win in 2016. But in order to win, they will have to think exactly like Evangelicals in one area: they VOTE.
“Deeply Christian”. Does that mean, extremist?
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;…
That’s not even in 2 Corinthians. That’s Matthew 6:19,
