I clicked on this article all ready to grumble about yet another article with Joe Scar’s take on something, like it is really insightful enough to merit an article here.

Agreed. But I think the comparison is much narrower. Elvis in 1977 was done for, living off past glories and his audience’s delusions; ditto Trump in 2019. Elvis underneath his self-destruction, though, was still the King, in this there is nothing to relate him to Trump who is, well just Trump.
When my kid was an early teen, just getting deep into the history of rock & roll, and just beginning to exhibit that teenage resentment and lack of respect kids get for their parents at that age, I won myself a reprieve of about six months by letting him and two of his buddies know, while driving them all back home from a party, how Elvis Presley had died and where. I had to warn them all not to go directly and blurt out “Ma! Ed’s dad says that Elvis Presley died on the toilet!!! Who was Elvis Presley?”
