Discussion: Not So Fast: Trump Foundation Can't Close While Still Under Investigation

Gee isn’t a shame that the 45th President has been shown to not only be linguistically challenged, but also ethically challenged. I sure hope his building that wall, using American businesses first, and uniting us as all will occupy most of his time so he can’t focus on his businesses. :smirk:

The Foundation CANNOT be closed down because Trumpy uses it to launder Repubs/Russian funny money .

He can wind down operations and close all his accounts. He just can’t legally dissolve the entity.

More than half the people outside the government who met with Clinton while she was secretary of state gave money — either personally or through companies or groups — to the Clinton Foundation. The proportion indicated possible ethics challenges had she been elected president.

Hmmm…and less than one percent of the people she met with were outside government,so another way to put that would be ‘less than half of one percent of the people that Clinton met with donated to the Clinton Foundation non-profit.’ FU AP. Get off Hillary’s back.

In order to try to shut down a harmful investigation, I will close my foundation that is ostensibly to provide benefits to other people and causes (and from which I could only enrich myself through dubious means), and claim with the media’s cooperation that this rids me of any potential conflict of interest problems. But, I will maintain an active role in my for-profit business organization and profit bigly from the extra value the presidency gives it; require other countries, government leaders, corporations, and individuals to contribute to my earnings and bottom-line; and instruct my cabinet, staff, and Congress to design policy accordingly.

Yeah, coupled with the NYT’s collusion with known grifter, wingnut welfare queen, and Breitbart Stooge, Peter Schweitzer, the two organizations appear to have cholla cactus joints up their collective assholes where HRC is concerned. Trump, not so much.

My nurse/infection prevention specialist daughter said that Trump dissolving his foundation was like a guy coming into her hospital with hole blown in his belly and the viscera half hanging out and telling the admitting desk that he’s come about his hangnail.

Edit. And even if he says he’s going to dissolve his foundation, why should I believe him? I could imagine his lawyers working up workaround schemes as I write.

Why wouldn’t he just come up with a new foundation under a new name and presto magico the problem has disappeared, isn’t that what he does with all his LLCs?

The Foundation is how Trump misuses and abuses what is ostensibly a charity, and it was nothing but pocket change for him. Apparently, we will never get to see the big time grift in his business empire because he said he did not want to show us and the American public was fine with that.

Trump foundation, indeed, but then, there’s this. Love the nuclear trefoil nimbuses, or is it nimbi?

The media seem to have caved pretty quickly on that too.

Unless a formal investigation is started by DOJ, local AGs or Congress, the entire issue of trump’s inextricable web of conflicts of interest will just fall by the wayside, I guess.

“My wonderful son, Eric, will no longer be allowed to raise money for children with cancer because of a possible conflict of interest with my presidency,” Trump tweeted. “He loves these kids, has raised millions of dollars for them, and now must stop. Wrong answer!”

Here’s an idea. How about take out your checkbook and put your money where your mouth is?

But of course he won’t, because the Trump model of “charitable” activity is raising money from other people, and spending it under the Trump name, for public relations purposes, in support of the Trump brand. So the Trumps supposedly “love these kids,” but apparently not enough to shell out much, if any, of their own dough.

So that’s why he wanted to close it–he thought he could stop the investigations that way. What a creep.

Going to “dissolve” the foundation. Does ANYBODY have any idea as to what will become of the money held by said foundation?

Well, that criminal venture has run its course.

In true form, Donald will “settle” by promising he won’t jumpstart that one again. He might jumpstart a different one. Or maybe the same one with a different name. (Managing grift is terribly hard work.)

Besides, Donald’s in position now to pass laws for other businesses must follow, laws that will also provide him with illegal openings — business advantage — he can use to bilk industries until his legal delay tactics give out and he walks away assuring everyone he will abide by an empty, meaningless promise.

Why should you believe him? Because he’s a man of his word, that’s why! Doesn’t matter if you’re a contractor doing work for him at an agreed-upon price or a member of the public to whom Trump has repeatedly promised to release his tax returns; Donald will keep his promise!

If he wants to close it down, you can bet he’s only doing it in hopes it will keep it’s innards from being made public. He is a crook, always has been, always will be.

Anybody know how rare this appearance of the trumps at a church service is? My bet is it’s very rare and staged like the rest of his entire persona is.

He probably imagines that by shutting it down he will escape legal scrutiny. And as his new attorney general designee seems to think that anything a president does is legal, once he’s inaugurated, he’ll probably be right. As others have noted, although he’s been “skimming” for personal use, most likely for decades, he can afford to shut it down, now that his odious spawn ae auctioning access to the highest bidder. Wife, sons, daughter: they all backed off once initially exposed, but you can bet your bottom dollar, they’ll be back. In point of fact, foreign governments are already taking suites in TrumpHotels, the better to gain access to him.

I don’t think we’ll be able to count of the US Attorney General and the Trump-enfused DOJ at all. I doubt New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will be that compliant.
