Nice timing on a late Friday afternoon. Guess he’s looking for a media blackout…

Staff tells Northam, “Buh-bye, bitch!”

Good.

Great, we have this idiot millstone for another three and a half years.

Can the party kick his ass out and let him serve out his term as an independent? I’m not sure what exactly that would mean.

Northam’s reasoning: Trump has said and done worse and is still hanging in there? Besides, everyone in VA politics seems to be just as guilty. And a lot of VA residents don’t seem to be much better.

I know it’s sick, but this might end up making Northam more popular across political lines. Republicans have driven moral standards so low in Dixie and reinforced the old stereotypes. Riding this tempest out might be just what the doctor ordered for the governor.

He now has an insurance policy to protect him:

So, no need to resign anymore. Sigh!

told staff he definitely won’t resign on Friday,

Oh? How about resigning on Saturday? Sunday?

Is it that hard to disambiguate a one sentence post by saying “on Friday … told staff he won’t resign.”

Where are they gonna go? Take a job with that other governor? Northam’s got nearly three years left and gov’s staff have power.

Wow. This doesn’t get better any time soon does it?

Based on the tenor of the comments in all the other Northam articles I think this is going to be unpopular, but.

Good for him.

Northam has led the way on improving teacher pay and expanding Medicaid, and given a voice to people who have been overlooked in the VA legislature. Did he do something really fucking dumb 30 years ago? Yep. Did he handle the revelation really badly? Yep. Are we going to crucify him for it? I vote no.

Because then we encourage the GOP operatives to continue hunting every Dem’s background until they’ve tainted anyone who might, just might, move the needle on the stuff we want to get done. And the R’s just. don’t. give. a. fuck. about what their people are doing, even today.

Right now he’s on solid ground. The digging has only barely begun into the House and Senate there, and already the Senate Majority Leader was the VMI lead editor of a very racist yearbook, complete with blackface and racial slurs. I’d expect as time goes by we’ll hear that a LOT more members have something like that in their past.

And nobody’s been accusing him of sexual assault, so there’s that going for him.

At this point, moving to hastily, you run the risk of replacing the person who you removed for bad things by another with the same, or worse.

And we’re literally seeing that in action. Had he stepped down last Saturday, Fairfax would have come in, only to be upended today by a second sexual assault claim, giving you Herring… Who also wore blackface…

That’s not an insurance policy

Way to overthrow the results of the election! All the Dems self immolate and the next in line for the governorship is … a Republican! Let’s not forget, the outing was done by an extreme right wing organization, who could then kick back and watch the Democrats do the rest of the work.

So: black rapist worse than white racist?

(Northam’s racist calculation).

Rape is a crime. A very violent crime. Blackface is stupid, demeaning, insensitive and a host of other things, but it’s not criminal. The race of either one of these guys doesn’t matter.

Don’t kill me, but that theory might be very relevant in a few.
