Northam is now positive that neither of those persons in the photograph is him, because he has remembered that he went to that party dressed in a syrup bottle costume.
Sounds like heās looking for blackfacial recognition software.
Shouldāve gone with the locker room talk defense.
Just some arguments I think are reasonable:
after further reflection the governor said he has no memory of
wearing either of the racist costumes
A little selective dementia doesnāt look good for your Office either ā
Northam: It wasnāt me in the photo. It was my evil twin Skippy. But I liked the picture so much I had it published on my page in my medical school yearbook. People should be happy I didnāt publish the photo of the mass lynching, which I didnāt because I thought it would be inappropriate.
Have I mentioned this is Black History Month?
Northam really is an idiot. One of those guys who resumĆ©d his way up the Democratic hierarchy in accordance with the fearful old strategy of āmoderationā. Heās a throwback to what is probably the least talented generation of Democrats, the Republican lites who let the map turn red. I didnāt agree with the instant brouhaha calling on him to resign, but now that itās happened he should step down, as his presence will not add a single voter to the Democratic column in 2020. On the contrary. But of course heās too much of a hack to quit, and like the closet Republican he is will try to stick it out.
OK, well, time for someone to go.
Hereās what happened: He released his statement, was asked which one he was in the picture, and then saw a way out through weaseling.
Whether he is lying or notā¦it LOOKS like it.
Bad Call, Northam
Since the source of the picture is, I think, a Breitbart acolyte, I assume that someone has actually gone to the year book to make sure the picture is authentic and that the year bookās editors have been tracked down and authenticated the process that was used to put the year book together. I know that a very rattled Northam initially admitted to the picture, but these Breitbart groups have a long history of fraudulent behavior directed toward public figures who they decide to destroy. That would certainly explain how no one has ever come up with this picture before during Northamās very long political career in Virginia. You would think that this type of year book would have been an obvious source for any reporting writing an article on Northamās life.
For better or worse, that fact will never go away. Best case, his initial reaction says that he believes he could have, would have, or did pose for a camera at some point in a racially insensitive (best case) costume. Thatās not ever going away.
Too stupid to be governor.
This will take on a mirror image of Kavanaugh. People will come forward saying they recall him being in blackface, and wearing hoods and saying all kinds of vile things.
I donāt see this working out well for him.
And it wasnāt Trump in that bus either; heās tried that one out a few times. Come on, man, thatās just weak. I understand feeling desperate and trapped but this is going to make 80 percent of the sympathy for you disappear with a big whooshing sound.
ā¦too late.
TV news claimed that reporters have vetted the photo. By finding a copy of the yearbook in the library, I think they said.
This is really getting ridiculous.
Hereās where we are at this point:
-
If Northam is in the photo, he should resign over the obvious racism of the image.
-
If Northam is not in the photo, then he should resign for political stupidity in not denying it was him from the start.
Seriously, Northam has put himself in this Catch-22.
Really itās Trumpian. āI meant to say wouldnāt and it came out would,ā or āI meant to add āNot!ā to the end of the sentence,ā I mean, come on. Itās as juvenile as backsies.
I remember my high school year books from 25 years ago. I would have remembered if I decided to put in a black face and KKK picture. I certainly would have remembered if I was one of those in the picture.
Heās lying now, or was lying before. It is not credible defense that he doesnāt rememberā¦unless this is something he and his friends did on multiple occasions and so he canāt remember who was in this specific photo. Does that really make it better?
