Discussion: Northam Doesn't Want To Resign Over Concern Of Being Branded 'Racist For Life'

Sorry Ralph, I think you’ve already been branded.

He’d have an easier time rehabing his reputation if he resigned now and went on an apology tour. Right now the pitchforks are out and he won’t be heard. If he resigns, takes a break for a bit and then writes an op-ed, goes on a publicity/apology tour he’ll eventually get the forgiveness/acceptance/understanding he seeks.

Sorry, that horse is out of the barn and won’t be brought back in. If he doesn’t resign, he will end up being seen as a stubborn and stupid racist. He needs to resign and find an occupation outside of politics. Making that decision has to be hard because of the work and money involved in getting elected, but there really isn’t any other reasonable choice.

Yeah, Ralph. People aren’t going to keep thinking that if you remain in office. Dumbass.

LOL! Is it just me, or is this guy getting stupider by the second? What, does he think he can be like Trump and get away with shit like this because the GOP defends him and allows him to?

You could have tried to find a way to redeem yourself somehow, but your political ego got in the way and you lied and made yourself look like a fool. Now you just look like some desperate politician who only wants to hang on to his career any way possible, no matter the opinion of the people who voted for and supported you.

You’re not just toast, Northam - you are breadcrumbs.

I don’t know much about Gov. Northham so I have ‘no dog in this fight’. However, I do have 2 questions: 1. Does having held racist/sexist opinions in your youth make you ineligible to ever hold elected office?; 2. Was Gov. Northam’s disqualifying mistake his hiding of the incident?

The Lt Gov is also under attack. I guess if you are a Democratic politician in the South, you have the entire conservative conspiracy media empire looking into everything you’ve ever done or said. Let’s hope men in the future don’t get attacked on social media for mocking women by wearing their clothes or makeup.

You know, I kind of get that and it could be to the benefit of people of color in his state if he has to make daily efforts to prove himself a changed man. Not for me to say, of course. The people of his state will have to weigh their options and determine which path will benefit them.

True, i was just thinking along the same lines. If he spent the rest of his tenure pushing as hard as he can to better minorities lives in VA that would be one good outcome of all this.

In all seriousness, Northam really has to talk to black voters. He won the primary because they voted for him en masse. Counting on their support allowed him to run a center-left campaign, not pander to the far left and beat Gillespie by one of the largest margins ever recorded by a VA Dem in the last half century.

Northam deceived black voters. They are clearly upset at this and will not take kindly to the notion that he is preventing Fairfax from ascending to the Governorship. The times call for humility on his part for having been outed on his deception. We’re talking about Klan hoods and black face. One is about the wanton murder of black folks without punishment. It’s white terrorism. The other is about the dehumanization of black folks for white amusement. Those aren’t easy to forgive. I think we can acknowledge that he has made a journey from those days to become a good Governor, but he must also acknowledge that he has much more to travel on that journey. It starts with showing humility, shame and respect to the people he deceived. It would be a big step in this present day environment if Northam resigned and showed humility and regret in doing so.

Looks like the Charlottesville alt-right may get their revenge.

FIFY!

According to a source in the meeting who spoke to CNN, Northam believes that the only way to redeem himself is not to resign, but to stay in office and persuade people that the photo is not reflective of who he is.

Does Virginia’s constitution describe one of the primary responsibilities of the Governor as “the pursuit of personal redemption?”

To late Governor.

Just like Mom said you would

First step: Don’t be a racist.

From the preponderance of the comments here, I am starting to think the Democrats are screwed in 2020. Or as one sage put it, “The only way evil can prevail is for good people to be stupid idiots and eat their own.”
