Voters should not be banned from exercising their right to vote on some day arbitrarily chosen by the State.
They say poll workers should not have to work on Sundays and Woodhouse pointed to ârespect for voterâs religious preferencesâ to justify cutting Sunday voting.
Thatâs pretty craven. Sunday voting has been done for many years, so itâs odd that poll workers who donât want to work on Sunday would apply and then complain.
Local yokels out of control, all of whom should be prosecuted.
Thanks Tierney for laying this out in a sensible and comprehensive fashion. Sheâs by far the best writer TPM has and I hope she sticks around for a long time.
Yes. She is excellent!
the âshouldnât have to work on Sundayâ bullshit is, even if itâs subconsciously, is trying to apply the Sunday as a day of rest according to an interpretation of the bibleâs âon the 7th day the Lord restedââŚ
why allow Saturday voting since the Talmud defines the day of rest from Friday evening until three stars appear in the sky SaturdayâŚ
If Donald Trump truly wants to reach out to the African American community, he could start by condemning these state practices designed to disenfranchise African American voters.
What ca you do to a state that continues to ignore the judicial system? Fine it? Great, but when they still donât correct their behavior? Fine them 50 batwillion dollars but at the end of the day, these fascists still wonât comply.
Simple and bald face bigotry and hatred of those-not-lily-white that gets described as âa complicated interplay of politics, legal wrangling, and bureaucratic processesâ.
MOFOâs, all of 'em.
I remember the NC senator who used the âno Sunday votingâ argument because itâs the Christian day of rest and worship. He was obviously ignorant of the constitution which does not permit and established religion. The next Sunday he was seen feeding his well-fed belly in a restaurant. He obviously didnât mind restaurant workers working on Sunday. If you object to voting on Sunday, feel free to vote another day. If a poll worker objects to working on Sunday in the sacred duty of allowing voters to vote, donât apply for the job. But it seems that the overriding objection is the âsouls to pollsâ habit of black voters. The hypocrisy of Republicans is amazing.
People here in nc need to vote their asses out
And now some churches have services 3 or 4 times a dayâŚu expect me to believe that those holier than thou poll workers are at each and every service their church has on sunday
But not everyone heeded his advice. A majority of the 100 county boards passed early voting plans without controversy that received unanimous board support.
Good for them.
Once again we see the Repukesâ real views on more than racism and ginned up controversy; we see their stewardship of public funds, even as schools, roads, emergency services, libraries go hungry for that same money.
âŚpoll workers should not have to work on SundaysâŚ
Huh? Does NC draft residents to compulsory poll-worker service? In CA, polls are run by volunteers. I donât know, maybe things are really different in North CarolinaâŚ
Kim Davis may be available.
Oh waitâŚ
What, and lose the Klan vote?
State Troopers come and put you in cuffs and force you to do it at gunpoint. Also, itâs a tremendous drain on our EMT resources because of all the Good Christian People who, I do declare, just faint dead away at the very thought of there beinâ elections going on on a Sunday. Sure, they donât have to vote, but the very ideah is just so terrâbly distressinâ it makes a body weak to think of it.
