"RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A federal judge has ruled North Carolina’s election in November can be held under a new voting law approved by Republican lawmakers.
The law is considered one of the toughest in the nation.
"U.S. District Court Judge Thomas D. Schroeder on Friday denied a motion seeking to hold the November vote under old rules. A coalition of groups, including the League of Women Voters and the NAACP, filed suit over more than two dozen changes approved by the GOP-controlled state legislature in 2013.
The groups say the changes are designed to suppress turnout at the polls among minorities, the elderly and college students — blocs considered more likely to vote for Democrats.
Schroeder also denied a state motion seeking to have the case dismissed, setting the stage for the trial."

Wasn’t clear from article so I missed it… the case will go to SCOTUS regardless
But was his ruling, this present one, the trial? What is the next stage?
But probably not in time for this year’s election.

The people of NC voted for these people in office. Those of you who sat home because you didn’t want to be bothered are responsible for these new laws. Get off your asses and vote these people out of office and demand that the the election laws be restored.

And that is the point, they know the law is a shit sandwich but they can sneak through another election cycle with the dirty trick.
Of course they will be even more despised for doing it but I don’t believe that bothers them much.

Does anyone ever stop to think just how behind the times the Republicans really are. This is happening in North Carolina but not one party leader speaks out against it.
The Repubs are cruel and mean that’s a given, but they are not part of the modern world. Ironically, they are the equivalent of human Dinosaurs.
I’ll call them oldfuckasaurusses or possibly assaholus rex.

agree, but for some it’s not so simple, and not just the hardships we usually hear about. i went through it myself trying to register in NY, had to jump through hoops to satisfy the requirements and failed via regular channels as an adoptee born in a state with sealed records.
