Discussion: No, New Mexico's GOP Governor Did Not Rail Against Obamacare Repeal

Though this is a case of ‘the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing’, what is Gov. Martinez’s opinion on a future ACA repeal?

Apparently, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange suffers from the same problem that the FBI does.

What is the purpose of the story?

None of these news organizations double-checked with the governor’s office to verify her office wrote the letter (since, you know, it wasn’t signed)? Okay, well, now that that’s been made clear, did anyone get Gov. Martinez’s take on the concerns her state’s healthcare exchange people brought up in the letter? I mean, they have some very legitimate, real concerns based on the new Congress’s stated desire to gut or rescind altogether, the ACA. That is the fucking real story – or should be.

This story should be blasted everywhere. I know it’s too late because we (unfortunately) already elected this liar, but that Trump companies would openly acknowledge that they are soliciting foreign workers over Americans should be a scandal.

“We want to make it clear that the ACA has provided NO significant benefits to New Mexico.”

FIFY, Gov. You’re welcome. Any lies you tell from here on out to further your ascent into “the drained swamp” will be significantly respected. Not to mention beneficial to your career.

She didn’t but she sure should have and still should rail about it.

Susanna seems to keep forgetting that New Mexico is one of the poorest states in the country with a lot of health problems among the population.

“She never saw the letter, doesn’t agree with it, and never would have signed it”

So she believes it should be repealed right away without any replacement. Good. Someone kick the NM Dems in the face and wake them up. It’s time to message on her.

I wish they would. It’s silly - she took the Medicaid expansion because in her heart of hearts she knows who she’s governing. New Mexico could not make it at all without a lot of federal money.

Someone is quickly learning the new rules of communication: Say something that you want to be heard. It will not matter if it’s not correct, because people will remember it and probably never even see the subsequent retraction.

I might buy that if I thought she was that smart. I don’t.

If she was that smart she would write that letter. New Mexico is a blue state. If the Democrats would run someone decent, they could probably beat her.

She’ll tell us when the National Committee tells her what her opinion is.

I’d guess it was leaked by a mid-level staffer at the Exchange (or maybe in the Insurance Commission office) who is well-aware that Susana would never sign such a letter without the permission of the Party’s Central Committee. Franchini (the Superintendent of Insurance, a Richardson appointee) might sign, but Martinez? No way.

When I was living there, we thought the state motto (Crescit Eundo) should be changed to, “Gracías a Dios por Mississippi”.

I actually thought that was the Texas state motto. hahahahahaha

…maybe not her? I have tried to find NM’s statistics regarding the % of their 2M population who are eligible for medicaid, and ACA subsidies. As I recall, it is substantial. NM never was an especially wealthy state, more so now that O&G activity is way down. Pre-ACA, the percentage of uninsured was roughly a quarter. They would be in a world of hurt without it.
