Discussion for article #230895
Police all over America are running amok because they know they wonât be prosecuted by DAs that they work with every day.
Itâs shameful, and it should be illegal.
Itâs way past time for every incident of police violence to require the appointment of a special prosecutor who has no ties to the police dept. being investigated.
This is insane. Thereâs nothing in that footage that even justifies the arrest in the first place. He called her a bitch before he landed that haymaker. How is this allowed? She has to sue civilly, to get her due, but the larger problem of accountability remains unaddressed.
White cop goes free again. YAWN. Nothing will be done about it.
Lemme guess. She was super-strong like a DEMON HULK and he feared for his life.
In Brooklyn there is an Asian American cop who will soon go unindicted in the shooting of a black man named Akai Gurley in an unlit staircase in the housing project building where Gurley lived. The grand jury will be empaneled soon and will find nothing .
authoritarian culture âstrong & wrongâ âmight makes rightâ power structure/status quo will never change this and as long as they have their power they can overlook humanity in the âotherâ
God. I just got nothing. Consequences are for plebs and minorities.
The officer here isnât white, he looks like a light skinned black man to me. The police period is the problemâŚnot just white police officers but the whole of them is in need of severe re-training and confiscation of weapons they have no business having.
You are absolutely correct about no fear of prosecution.
Last month, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that 461 felony suspects had been killed by police officers across the country last year, the highest figure in two decades
it is almost certain that the absence of real repercussions impedes restraint.
Jeezus God. I am in mourning for my country. Tell BHO to forget about spending money on body cams for police. Doesnât even matter anymore. Might makes right.
That âprosecutorâ should be disbarred for gross misconduct, dereliction of duty and failure to uphold his oath of office. There is no justification as ALL Prosecutorâs can handle felony cases.he should also be disbarred for being completely full of shit, as well.
I loved how the cop was hamming it up for the camera, âmy jaw is jacked, man,â and all that grimacing when the hospital said there was no injury. Yes, police actions need to go before citizen review boards --forget these grand juries and D.A.s. And if their crimes are ruled fit for trial, they should be prosecuted by defense attorneys and not their pals the D.A.s.
"Medical records later showed the officer sustained âno obvious injury,â and it was unclear whether the womanâs kick had even connected with him. . . . " Does the officer have to be injured first, does he have to take a punch, before subduing a suspect who clearly wants to hurt him while he/she does his/her job? I know in my area police officers have been shot and killed during traffic stops. These decisions have to be made less than a second sometimes. If the people of Seattle do not like the prosecutorâs decision, vote him out.
I just want you to know as a Canadian I feel for you, it appears no one in your country is aware the world is literally watching. Itâs so difficult to understand, how easy it is for your congress to totally be obsessed with policing the world⌠yet there is no accountability for their own police. Sad really sad.
In a democracy especially, police canât be above the law. They must serve it.
The federal government should run any grand juries convened to assess whether a police officer should stand trial. Break the conflict of interest between attorneys general and their partners, the police force.
He called her a âfucking bitchâ and you can tell by his response to seeing her face that he knows he screwed up. Thatâs way he tells the other cop to get a sargeant.
Body cams will not prevent overacting and phony language/behavior by the cops. Here is one such case. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Thanks, Canadian. We can both agree, itâs just a damn shame.
Naah, in that case he would have shot her. Entirely justified, of course. It is nice to have all these options if you are a police officer. And it is a pity for all the (no irony intended) brave and upstanding officers in the line of duty, who will get smeared in their reputation by virtue of being associated with the bad apples.
