Discussion for article #246024
At issue is whether Obama, in his last year in office, should make a nomination and the Republican-led Senate should confirm that choice in an election year.
The author of this piece has blundered into the GOP psycholinguistic bog of eternal mendacity. This is not an “issue” where both sides have a different take The constitution is clear and the GOP is stubbornly prevaricating with propaganda which the author is now validating. This is another variant of “shape of earth, both sides differ.”
Scalia retired around 9 p.m., saying he wanted a long night’s sleep…
Looks like he is going to get it.
ooh good… no autopsy…
let’s just reinforce the crazies that already think he was killed by Obama…
I wonder if he paid his bill before being found " in complete repose" [1]. If not, you could say the the owner of the “dude ranch” [2] got “stiffed”
[1] He’s not only merely dead, he’s really most sincerely dead.
[2] Let’s be honest, this was was no wilderness hunting experience.
Here’s a good one, I DVR’d Real Time from Friday, and Bill Maher twice (and emphatically) mentioned how hard it was to get any good decisions from the Court with Scalia there…
The new “suspect”…
I know what killed him…
IT WAS DEH GEYZ!
Agree wholeheartedly.
Clinton and Sanders need to make the following pledge:
“If I am elected president and Scalia’s position on the court remains unfilled, I will nominate President Obama’s nominee.”
No mention of cocaine in his system ? no record of the levels? No explanation offered as to why this information is not being made available?
I suspect he rotted from the inside.
No autopsy, huh? Well, THAT won’t lead to any conspiracy theories.
Republicans argued that Obama, as a lame duck, should not fill the vacancy created by Scalia’s death, but leave it to the next president — which they hope will be one of them.
Third AP piece in a row I’ve read that uses the “new, improved, Democrat-in-office” meaning of “lame duck” with no attempt to point out it’s use is not applicable to Pres. Obama.
Republican football coaches should feel a moral obligation to refrain from trying to score in the fourth quarter of all football games… cause … well it is just about over…
If he died of myocardial infarction ( and that’s a damn good bet ) an autopsy is not needed. A simple CPK-MB blood test that can be done post mortem would tell you what you need to know. Ultrasound would get it as well. Autopsy is a very disfiguring thing. His family did not want it.
Who flew on the private aircraft with Scalia to Texas? What was their reaction to Scalia’s sudden death and how did that person return to Washington?
Krugman, in his column today, obliquely mentions the role of the press in enabling Republican propaganda.
No autopsy? Eh, let’s cut him up anyway, just for grins.
And this points out the problems of the 22nd amendment. Obama isn’t a lame duck under any reasonable definition until his successor is identified. If President Obama were constitutionally able to run for a third term the superficial justification that he is a lame duck in that his departure from office now occurs on a known date doesn’t exist.
By that definition, any elected government official who has announced her retirement is equally a lame duck and should be removed from office immediately.
It was a clear case of his body rejecting him. It just couldn’t take the embarrassment anymore.
Without labs, I suspect an autopsy would more likely show a stroke. That would better explain his declining intellectual performance over the past few years.
