Concern trolling.
Right there with you. Itās the bipolar whiplash between triumphal jubilation and panic bordering despair youāll see in any given dayās batch of ten to twenty email blegs that leaves me shaking my head and thinking of Will Rogers crack about not being a member of an organized political party.
Oh that poor hand!
You are completely missing the point. They obviously donāt have the votes in the Senate, but thatās not the point either. The point is to wake Democratic voters the fuck up. Itās to get minority voters to get off our duffs and go to the polls to protect our president. The point is to get young people and single women (mostly minorities) to get out there and protect their own vote from the last election. This is a base election where Republicans are trying to drive out their base and Democrats are trying to do the same with theirās. Warning of impending impeachment is a damn good way to do it.
Between Christmas and New Yearās I unsubscribe from basically any list Iām on.
Iām suspecting more than a few have had ātechnical errorsā that kept my name from being removed from some lists.
Perhaps my response is to the reporters translation of what Clyburn actually said.
Iām SO confused!
So, um, youāre saying that Obama deserves this since Democrats are bringing this on themselves? Sucks to have a democracy.
Oh, and all those schlubs out there that keep electing Republicans will be happy about the closed government, since they think itās the issue. Unfortunately, half of the nation thinks this is a boon and not a cost, or are too stupid to tell the difference.
But what if they are TRUE?
I am so surprised at such a statement coming from you. This was hardly a threat but a call to action.
Surprise, surprise, Sahil uses click bait in his headline. What a joke
Well said Jep. A good man and a good President - handed a raw deal
Can we call the 113th Reps āThe Animal House?ā
Why does this remind me of Republicans planning impeachment? Maybe it is line at 2:24 that makes it seem to fit so well.
Scaring people into voting indicates desperation and full-borne cynicism, for any political party.
Fair point, but if the House did tie up our time with pointless impeachment poceedings to satisfy the rabid base, it will be a long two years of doing absolutely nothing but digging through the Obamas trash can and investigating who Pres. Obamaās friends were before he was born. And you can bet they will drag it out until the next election cycle.
And if they get the Senate, we can rest assured they will indeed do it.
In either case, weāll have more do-nothing from Congress and manufactured scandals will be a daily feature. Meanwhile Americans will still have to take a back seat to their neverending drama.
We definitely need the House if we want to get things done.
Your entire post was brilliant, but the above really captured how Iām feeling as well. On one hand, impeachment would be a helluva way to GOTV for Democrats and it could honestly put the House back in play. It would also put those blue/purple state Republican senators up for reelection in 2016 in an extraordinarily difficult situation. Do you vote for impeachment and risk being beaten over the head with it by your opponent and Obama and both Clintons when they campaign in your state? Or, do you vote against impeachment and invite a primary challenger? This could be incredibly toxic for Kirk, Ayotte, Johnson, Rubio, Burr, Portman and Toomey.
On the other hand, itās emotionally painful to see the way this president has been treated. It will be hard to see him stuck with that fucking asterisk by his name, and for the high crime of being Black while presidenting. Itāll be a reminder to every Black person that no matter what you do, no matter what you accomplish, no matter where you go, no matter how you behave, to a whole lot of White folks youāll always be a nigger.
and we have ANOTHER concern troll working the pageā¦
If Sahil were a better writer heād still only be mediocre.
Perfect. The only way the Republicans can react is to get offendedāHow dare he say that Republicans support impeachment?
And then the dumb news shows have debates over whether the Republicans support impeachment and the low-info voters just hear the words Republican and impeachment used in the same sentence over and over again and get the message.
This is so whether it literally is true that a majority of GOP reps support impeachment or not. They canāt disprove a hypothetical.
Perfect.
Thatās true, but desperation and full-borne cynicism alone is not sufficient cause for the Republicans to close up shop and concede. Therefore, Democrats still should run campaigns.
