I’m so happy and glad to hear Angelou will have a U. S. Post Office named for her! Shame on those who voted ‘No’ and to those who skipped the vote altogether (unless they couldn’t make in due to illness, weather or their cars broke down). Rep. Harris, a special middle finger to you, sir!!

My glass is half full most days, so for me as long as the good news is presented up front I can then handle the bad news that comes later in the story, in this case the continuing and hardening of racist policies.

I certainly have no objection to naming a Post Office in honor of Maya Angelou. But to say that she is “indisputably” one of the United States’ greatest poets, is a bit of a stretch. In fact, some of the most piercing and enjoyable writing critiques of modern times have been directed at her verse. But that’s not why the Republicans voted against the honor.
