Teatroll Rosetta Stone: “You’re black and we have an excuse.”
I assume they are not accepting American students as we have 2 confirmed cases.
“Our college values its diverse population of international students. This fall we have almost 100 students from Africa,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, some students received incorrect information regarding their applications to the institution. As part of our new honors program, the college restructured the international department to include focused recruitment from certain countries each year. Our focus for 2014-15 is on China and Indonesia. Other countries will be identified and recruitment efforts put in place once we launch our new honors program fall 2015. We apologize for any misinformation that may have been shared with students.”
You said in your rejection letter that it was because of (your totally irrational overreaction to) Ebola. Just fucking admit it, lying weasels.
What part of “it’s Texas” do these Nigerians not understand.
“Stop Ebola, Stop Discrimination!” REALLY?
Guess what, foreign students: YOU DON’T HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE, YOU ARE NOT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.
Given that we have a serious public health issue brewing, I’d rather see this headline right now than one announcing “150 deaths in Texas attributed to Nigerian College Freshman”.
Seriously, unless you are a certified Critical Care nurse–like me–you don’t know a thing about this situation. If anything, we have UNDERREACTED in this country which directly lead to the death of a patient in Texas and now the confirmed infection of at least two, possibly more, care providers.
Personally, I’d like to see a moratorium on all travel into the US from any country that is dealing with this outbreak. It’s unlike any past outbreaks and our Government is totally behind the 8 ball on this one. If you knew the inside story, you would literally crap your pants.
In Texass, that’s pronounced “eeeeeeebowler,” accent on the “eeeeeee.”

Stay in Nigeria and die! … unless your uncle is a prince .
Dear Ms. Pillans,
We value diverse jive both from corporations and from alleged institutions of higher learning like yours.
Unfortunately, some applications submitted to you may have been crawling with virus germs.
We apologize for any horrible deaths that may occur in your office.
Texans are seriously idiotic. I’m not surprised that it’s a Texas hospital which has screwed up so badly. I wonder how long before Perry organizes an event in a stadium to pray Ebola away.
That sounds like a sound decision.
Not a thing, huh?
It’s not transmitted by air, only by contact with body fluids, like AIDS. Or does the paranoid Critical Care nurse with all her his fear-mongering pant-crapping superior knowledge care to dispute that fact? And goddamn, I’m not even a certified Critical Care nurse, and even I know that much. Imagine that!
What is it about unwarranted panic that titillates you, or is it just your xenophobia showing when you proclaim that because someone isn’t an American citizen they don’t “belong here?”
And what is it about your unassailable expertise in being a Critical Care nurse that makes you fancy yourself qualified to make that pronouncement?
At least two students who applied to a Texas college from Nigeria
received letters from the school stating that their applications were
rejected because the college “is not accepting international students
from countries with confirmed Ebola cases.”
One can’t help but wonder how this college is currently responding to applicants who live within the state of Texas.
I agree that we should forbid all travel from Texas to the rest of the country.
(Reposted from the previous Ebola article/thread)
Now there’s this from AP (excerpted from the Houston Chronicle):
NEW YORK (AP) — Health officials are alerting airline passengers who were on the same flight as a Texas nurse who was diagnosed with Ebola the next day.
The 132 passengers were on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143 from Cleveland to Dallas-Fort Worth on Monday.

You may be a Critical Care nurse, but you lack critical reading comprehension skills: the article states that due to an apparently successful public health campaign, Nigeria will be declared Ebola-free by Monday.
We apologize that some students were inadvertently informed of the true reason their applications were rejected and, simultaneously, informed that our college is run by ignoramuses.
England, Spain, Norway and Germany are all dealing with this outbreak. Do you think we should ban travel to and from those countries?
Nigeria has done an excellent job of containing Ebola, helped in no small part by a state-of-the-art hospital that the Gates Foundation built to fight polio. Now that polio is no longer a problem in Nigeria, they turned the hospital over to a treatment center for Ebola patients. But the hospital wouldn’t have been enough by itself – it also required the commitment of the Nigerian government and the willingness of the people there to follow through with what the health care experts were telling them needed to be done.
