Discussion: NH Judge Blocks GOP Voter Law With 'Misleading' Registration Forms

Cases like this show how important it is that the Republicans don’t succeed in completely stacking the courts with conservative judges. We need sane judges who are not beholden to the Federalist Society.

As per plan, the damage is already done. This will zing around in the courts for a long while after the election is over (and people failed to register for fear of being prosecuted for “voter fraud”) until it winds up in front of the aforementioned hand picked conservative activist judges who will see no problem with it. Only cure is for Democrats to get a majority and remove the law.

It is becoming pretty plain that in many areas we are not that far from the vote belonging to land owning whites

Hear, hear.

“Given the extraordinarily low rate of documented voter fraud in this
state, it is far more likely that legitimate voters will be dissuaded
from voting than illegitimate voters will be prevented,” he said.

Low rate!? What about the 3M Mexicans (more illegals than the population of New Hampshire) who voted in New Hampshire in 2016 after they completed Spanish language affidavits?

And Corey Lewandowski personally saw busloads of Massachusetts voters coming here in 2016 because they knew Mass would go Democratic and didn’t want to waste their votes.

Yes. Consider that a non-driving renter, whose rent includes utilities, would have nothing to show as proof of residence. It’s been a scam from the beginning.

Who can forget the endless parade of buses that were used to bring them in? The paint jobs should have been a tip-off.

We have same day registration here so there is no failing to register because of this law. This law was passed in attempt to block college students from voting in the state. The argument is/was they are not residence of NH, which is nonsense since e college students actually spend more time and money in state than out.

Is this sarcasm?

I know!! How did those New Englanders miss those obvious signs?

Yes. He’s been posting extreme Poeish posts for a little while now.

Good. I wish there were some way to actively discourage gaming the system for partisan advantage.

If there were, Republicans would decry it as discriminatory for always targeting them.

Live free or die, motherfuckers.

They’re only happy when they’re whining about their victimhood. If this satisfies their need for perceived martyrdom, that’s fine by me—just as long as their anti-democratic manipulations are thwarted.

The Supreme Court settled this issue a while back. College students can vote where they live during college. But in the MAGA world, decisions, laws and rules no longer exist

The law was passed after Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte was narrowly defeated in 2016, and was joined by another GOP-backed voting restriction, which is set to go into effect next year, that narrows who is considered eligible to vote under the state’s domicile requirements. Critics say the new requirements seemed geared to discourage college students in the state, who may not have easy access to the types of domicile documents New Hampshire now requires, from voting.

Well, DUH!!! Everyone knows that college students are not American citizens. They’re not even constituents of their representatives in Congress, either. In general, everyone in this country who is between the ages of 18 and 25 cannot enjoy the same constitutional rights as everyone else because allowing those people to vote would be the accurate function of our representative democracy, and as a Republican, i am opposed to that!

One of the things the media seems to be completely ignoring are the races for governor in key 2020 states. It looks like there will be Democratic governors in almost all the battleground states. There will be a backstop against any future voter suppression attempts. In some cases, the current voter suppression laws on the books will likely get repealed. Also, I suspect it will be Democrats redrawing the Congressional maps in 2021. That’s going to be a very big long term problem for Republicans. They’ll not only lose the ability to keep Democrats from voting, they’ll lose the House for a decade or more.

Fellow NH’er here.

I think we have a good chance of flipping our insanely large legislature and Governor to Dem.

I’d like to see this go away as well as voter ID.

And for a state that is purportedly “live free or die” seems weird we are the only state in NE that weed isnt legal, just sayin’… I can drive 25 miles in any direction and get to a state where it is…
