Discussion: Newspaper Published Op-Ed Attacking Dem Shaheen By Deceased Politician

Discussion for article #229348

How is this even remotely to be considered journalism? 'Well, the NH Republican Party handed us this 6 year old partisan screed written by a man who has since died and is entirely irrelevant and they demanded that we publish it…so we did…because something something unbiased news." Next up: Foster’s Daily Democrat publishes Scott Brown’s latest used toilet paper smears because his campaign provided them, told them to publish it and claims you can see Jesus in them.

One of the most interesting and socially ruinous aspects of the Inca civilization was their worship of the dead and the continuing political and social influence exerted by dead leaders…I hope our righties aren’t heading in this direction.

Last I saw gasoline prices are falling precipitously. I saw 2.63 in NJ this week.

That’s genius: they didn’t just plagiarize, they plagiarized FROM A DEAD GUY!

An op-ed from a guy without life to help the campaign of a guy without a soul. Sounds about right.

Because its pretty eyebrow rising for a newspaper to pull something like this. And quite cowardly. If they have an issue with Shaheen…write their own editorial. They have entire pages dedicated to just that.

I’m up here in northern NH–Berlin. Jean Shaheen will be at an event here in at the Senior Center–I’m one!–in about twenty minutes. I plan to go.

As a former resident of Mass, it is genuinely shocking to me that NH republicans will vote for a sleazy self-serving carpetbagger over someone who has spent a life living, working, and working for the people of NH. They have set up little displays with cannons, flags and big signs that say: Save America Vote Republican. Are they really this stupid? You 'betcha.

And I’ll bet you thought “journalists” couldn’t get any lazier?

I used to work at that paper in the 70’s - we called it Foster’s Daily
Disaster - I see it hasn’t changed.
So called the editorial board there just nowand spoke with a guy
who identified himself as “Muzz” (talk about gravitas).
Muzz defends publishing the dead guy because it was
submitted by the Republicans as their response to Shaheen. So
it’s not deceptive - get it? I asked him he had any thoughts
from Abe Lincoln on the debate. I don’t know how that paper
survives. The paper’s founder was an advocate for slavery (from NH!) -
he had to hide in the basement once to avoid an angry mob.

What do you expect from a Party that lives in the past and longs for the “good old days” of the 1840’s?
What does this say about the state of Journalism in 2014 when most local Newspapers have become soulless stenographers for their corporate owners interests?
You get this.

Not to mention lazy.

The Nashua Telegraph made their endorsement Sunday. http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/opinion/editorials/1049973-465/our-choice-in-the-us-senate-race.html

Here’s how the editorial started:

"Scott Brown says he wants to represent New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate because he’s from here.

We have a few words of advice for Mr. Brown.

Stop claiming you are from here. It’s disingenuous, and every time you say it, it sounds hollow. You were born here and vacationed here, but most of your adult life you lived and worked somewhere else."

So, who do you think they endorsed?

“If Scott Brown votes to strengthen America regardless of party politics, he will be the exactly the kind of senator New Hampshire needs.”
