Discussion: News Outlets Fall For Parody That Took Credit For Brooklyn Bridge White Flags

Discussion for article #225397

“@BicycleLobby, an account that parodies that subset of New Yorkers who are fanatic cycling advocates.” This is not in fact true. The account was established after Dorothy Rabinowitz who stated that CitiBike would begrime the city and accused the spread of cycling on an “all powerful bicycle lobby.” The twitter account parodies the voices in Rabinowitz head and is not parodying cycle advocates.

Krystal is just a newsreader, that wasn’t her fault. The blame lies with the producer for not screening it.

This is what comes of taking critical thinking out of the schools. People who should know better begin to believe any old herpderpery they see in print or on the Foxnews.

Hey, I just had a think! Could that be the REASON critical thinking was removed from the schools? Food for thought.

Herpderpery?

I hate when parody news is interrupted with parody news parodies…

And this, my friends, is a perfect example of what is wrong with the traditional media. No investigation, no one-on-one interviews, no verification, no vetting. Just tweet something and to them it is true.

What’s even sadder is this will happen again; they will get duped because they are lazy.
A damn shame.

Does anybody practice journalism anymore? Does journalism even matter? I guess it’s gotten to the point where the only financial model that works for them any more is stories about decapitating psychopaths, er, ah, I mean Republicans, and the Kardashians, er, ah, I mean the people who vote for them.

said Mitchell, who was working on the bridge. “My first reaction was, ‘This is where you land the plane. X marks the spot.’ It was really scary.”

Yeah, because those terrrrrsts wouldn’t be able to find the Brooklyn Bridge if it didn’t have a white flag on top.
